Fiction|Writing Challenge

Hodgepodge Challenge — No 1

Autumn-themed challenge — sort of.

Who doesn’t love a good provocation to get the creative juices flowing?!

I have come to the realization that some of my most fun and creative writings are due to partaking in challenges. Who wouldn’t want to throw the gauntlet down to others and watch the creative juices flow like Niagara Falls? I’ve discussed with Bradan Writes Stories that more competitive challenges are good for the soul and family livelihood of the Medium Illuminati, among other amazing authors.

In honor of the upcoming autumn season, which begins 9/23, we have an autumn-themed challenge. (Sort of)

Writing prompt choices

(1 point each or 2 points for using both):

  • A mute scarecrow with an urgent message for someone.
  • A robot/cyborg in need of, and searching for, a new power source.

Elements to include

(1 point each):

  1. The phrase “What’s up Buttercup?
  2. A hippocampus (mythical creature - if you use as a portion of the brain that’s fine since I didn't specify!)
  3. The scent of marshmallows
  4. A moped (small motorized bike)
  5. Walking trees or trees that move

Bonus: 1 point for either a 100-word drabble or a 1,000-word story!

Ground Rules

  1. Use one or both prompt choices.
  2. Include as many elements as possible.
  3. Try to keep submissions between 100 and 1,000 words.
  4. Tag me so I can read your story and add it to the next publication!
  5. Challenge your fellow (competitive) writers!
  6. Publish where you choose but consider The Fictioneer’s Treasure Trove.

I extend this challenge to Erin Taylor, JF Danskin, and Bradan Writes Stories! I almost awarded cookies instead of points, but I have no way to deliver. LOL
