What a bad day is here to teach you

Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. — John Hughes

I did not write yesterday. That is rare for me on a regular Tuesday. However, my energy was not right for writing. To some, that may sound like an excuse. To me, it was a perfect day to reflect, go within, and discover what changes I need to make. On my 100-day journey exploring abundance, I am happy for an overflow of lessons that difficult day brought to me.

If I had not had a difficult day yesterday, I could not share some important lessons today.

I woke up feeling like I was tired of my routine, out of ideas, and low on energy. It is not a regular occurrence for me. I am usually bright, cheery, and ready to take on the day.

It was one of those days when you feel done with everything.

We are coming up on a year of the pandemic, and my heart aches for a different view. Letting myself to fully feel this leads me to find a way to feel better.

Yesterday I was so grateful to my writer friends. Instead of writing, I took some time to read and learn from them. As a writer, I believe that is a valuable practice. Sometimes we need to delve into another world for a while and connect with them.

After reading, I went outside to walk around the garden and fed the squirrels. The bright sunshine felt like a tonic to my spirit. I drank it in by spending time with my arms outstretched, receiving good energy.

On the podcast I listened to, someone mentioned yoga. For a while, I had thought it would be good to try doing yoga. At that very moment, I looked up apps on my phone and downloaded one to try the following morning.

I believe a bad day is your inner being pointing you towards something new.

Because I took time to listen to my spirit and my body, I feel renewed today. I feel more energy in my body from the yoga I did first thing this morning.

Yesterday I also decided to get out of the house for a while. Even though I did not travel far, the change of vista helped me.

It nourished me to drop off our taxes, go to a local coffee shop to pick up some coffee, mail a package, go to the library, and get groceries. The best part of my day was getting a smoothie for my dear friend and dropping it off at her house. Just being able to see her for a few minutes brightened my day.

It is the little moments of joy in our lives that add up to a great day.

I want to share with you what I learned from my bad day. The next time you have a difficult day, these things may help you.

Get into your body:

We walk around in our bodies every day. However, sometimes we are out of tune with them. That can lead to low energy. What I learned yesterday was that I needed to tune into my body first thing in the morning. That podcast was a message from my inner being to do something more to stretch my body.

After I did my twenty-minute yoga session this morning, I felt relaxed, energized, and ready to start the day. The energy in my body changed. I felt more aligned with my spirit as well.

Get out of the house:

My challenging day also helped me realize I need to get out of the house more. I love being at home most of the time, and I feel at peace here. However, I know that to remain focused, I need a change of scenery every once in a while.

From now on, once or twice a week, I will run errands. I will not let them pile up and do them all at once like yesterday. I consider it something I am doing to replenish my energy and nourish myself.

Get in tune with your inner being:

The last lesson I learned from my bad day was that I need to tune into my spirit more. I can do this by taking time out of my day to listen. There are signs and signals all around us. They may come in the form of a podcast, a song, an animal, or an inner calling.

When you take time to focus and tune in, it will feel like the message is just for you.

That is what it felt like when I heard someone talk about yoga on the podcast. It was an electric feeling. I knew I had to take action at that very moment. I am glad that I did.

In the end, I am grateful for my bad day.

It gave me three powerful lessons. It gifted me action steps to move forward with joy.

My prayer for you today is for you to lean into the lessons of challenging days. They are there for us to help us grow as human beings. Your inner being teaches you in lots of different ways.
