3 Ways To Open Up to An Abundance of Fun and Delight
Life is here to surprise you

All great celebrations break away from the mundane. ― Jessica Marie Baumgartner, The Magic of Nature: Meditations & Spells to Find Your Inner Voice
This past Saturday, we planned a little Valentine party here at home for the three of us. We planned on getting Italian food from our son Adam’s favorite place. However, on Friday, a snowstorm hit our area.
Here in Oregon, we do not get snow often, so it is quite an event. Most of the world shuts down when snow shows up. It is what makes it lots of fun. We have an opportunity to enjoy the present moment more by going out to play in the snow.
Abundance brought us a lot of surprises for our celebration. I loved the moment when my husband came outside and told us he had difficult news and crazy news. What could that be?
It turns out that the restaurant we were going to order food from was closed because of the storm. However, my husband had ordered a special dinner for the two of us that he needed to pick up from a different place. What a sweet surprise!
We ended up driving to pick up our food very slowly and cautiously. We went on major roads in the snow. On the way back, we stopped at one of the only drive-through restaurants that were open. We wanted to get something that our son would enjoy since he missed his Italian food.
I felt very grateful for the surprise fancy dinner, and Adam felt special because we picked up something for him to enjoy.
In all of this, abundance showed up for us.
I decorated our table with pink carnations, heart chocolates and lollipops, heart napkins, and a pretty pink love balloon.
We laughed at our good fortune in this situation and enjoyed every moment of our party together. I shall always remember those moments. It taught me that abundance does show up when you trust.
The next day as luck would have it, our favorite restaurant was open, and we all enjoyed our pasta together. Abundance brought us two parties instead of one. I love that!
Throughout the dark winter here in the Northwest, we decided to have a weekly celebration.
There may not be a holiday every weekend, but we celebrate being together and healthy any way that we can.
Here are three ways that you can open up to abundance and surprises.
Plan a weekly celebration:
It is a tradition that we may keep even after the pandemic is over. It brings us together every week to toast to our health and life. We gather over food and give thanks for our abundance.
Each week we think of a new theme. Sometimes there is a holiday to celebrate. Other times, we come up with a different idea. This week I came across a fun holiday from Japan.
I was watching the Japanese show “Terrace House.” On it, they showed them celebrating Setsuban. It is a holiday to welcome in spring and celebrated on February 2nd.
One member of the household dresses up with a demon mask. The rest of the family throws soybeans at them and proclaim: “Demons out, Good fortune in!” Then the demon runs out the door.
It is also traditional to make and eat sushi rolls in silence. You do this while facing the lucky direction for the year.
My son was very excited to play the demon role as he loves theater and dressing up. He found a fun purple mask in his closet, so he is all set.
I encourage you to look for cultural celebrations to enjoy or look up the many national food holidays on the internet. Those are great to celebrate as well!
Whatever you choose to celebrate each week, have fun with it. Get out decorations you rarely display, light candles, and enjoy some delicious food. Abundance will accompany you.
Celebrate your milestones and accomplishments:
All of us are working towards goals and accomplishments. Sometimes we have daily markers such as writing a certain amount of words or walking a certain amount of steps. Other times we have monthly or quarterly milestones to achieve.
I believe that if we celebrate all along the journey, more abundance will show up for you. Overflow loves it when you are happy and having fun.
Create daily, weekly and monthly milestones for yourself. Then, when you reach them, celebrate. A daily celebration can be a quiet few minutes to enjoy a cup of tea.
A weekly celebration might involve a special meal or some relaxation. When you reach your monthly goal, you can treat yourself to something more.
The key is to keep track of and be proud of each step you take towards your aims in life. Life is too short to get down on ourselves and always think we have only done a few things. In reality, we have accomplished a lot.
Create a joy jar:
It is an idea I got from a dear friend of mine. Every year, she and her family fill a jar with little slips of paper. On each piece of paper, they write something that made them happy that day.
On New Years Day, they read the notes of joy as a family and celebrate all of their moments of joy.
I love this idea, and you can even take it further by reading your notes each month. It is fun to look back at all of the things that make you happy each day.
My prayer and my intention for you today is for you to find ways to open up to abundance by celebrating in different ways.
Day #87: How will you celebrate every day, every week, and every month?
I am tagging some amazing fellow writers on this journey. They joined me on my 100-day spiritual journey, and it is an honor to have them here on this journey.
I ask that you read their beautiful work here on Medium. Thank you for your generosity!
