Sunsets From Prince Edward Island, Canada
Paradise By The Sea-Garden of the Gulf

Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada’s smallest province, is simply beautiful. For those of you who have never been there, I highly recommend it.
My wife and I, and our then 3-year-old daughter discovered this island gem back in 1989. With our hand-me-down pop-up camper (courtesy of my in-laws) and my Chevy pickup, we set out to discover this island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Cape Breton Island. It was a trip that would inspire many return visits to this area over the years especially after our son was born in 1993.
Sometimes camping, sometimes staying in cottages, we would tour the island’s many lighthouses, view the beautiful scenic potato fields, swim in the warmest ocean North of New York, and enjoy the delicious seafood. Especially the PEI mussels.
PEI is the land of potato fields. Spuds galore. The soil there is perfect for growing them, and it is one of the main industries of the island. The contrast of the green potato vines with the rusty red dirt is stunning. Field after field of potatoes.

My wife and I returned in 2019, our last previous visit being 2006. This trip, we stayed in a small hotel on the North shore near Cavendish and the beautiful Prince Edward Island National Park. We spent a few days either touring around the island or soaking in the sun at Cavendish beach.

Each evening we would return to Cavendish in search of sunsets. With the rust-colored soil, cliffs, and ocean views, the sunsets are just beautiful there. The coastlines are just wonderful. An added bonus is that it’s not that crowded. There are tourists, but not like in the US. The pace of life seems slower there. They seem to be about 10 years behind the US in commercialism. We met a few other people at the same location every evening. There for the same reason. To capture the magic moments.

Enjoy the photos. We will definitely return there again once the travel restrictions are lifted and life gets back to normal. Hopefully soon.
