PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE
Summer Rains and Floral Beauty
Week 48 of the photographic documentary of my daily life
This week I’ve spent mostly in the great outdoors either while gazing in amazement at the beautiful clouds in the sky or while inhaling the fresh and clean air after a light summer rain.
The selection of photographs is a mixture of the blue of the sky and the waters on the ground, decorative flowers in the backyards of our neighbors, and wildflowers in the fields.

I’ve spent the day with my Grandma. A sad but true fact is that her health is going rapidly down. After my last visit, I could see clear differences in what she could and cannot do anymore.
While we still walked together to the market the previous time, today she could barely get up from the chair and walk around in the flat. But we had gotten a wheelchair for her so I took her on a long walk over the fields.
She didn’t say much but I think (or hope) she enjoyed the trip. We talked about the harvest of the farmer, which plants were growing where, and stopped to see these beautiful cornflowers.

I stayed this night at a friend of a friend’s house. She had six larger dogs. Maybe more. I think they were eight. All rescue dogs from Greece. And much more I learned about her and her life.
This little pond was in the garden where the dogs were freely roaming around.

The next morning I captured this beauty right next to the pond. In the light of the first rays of sunshine, the flower had a special shine to itself.

All these days I’ve been looking at the sky fascinated by the ever-changing picture of the clouds up there. Just before or just after the rains these clouds look the prettiest. Sometimes also in between it all.

On today’s walk, I ventured out in the woods all on my own. I enjoyed the solitude and tranquillity surrounding my steps on the forest floor. I experienced wildlife sightings such as a few deer and squirrels that stopped to talk to me.

A few yucca plants drew my attention when driving through town today and I told myself I had to go back there to capture them. I had no idea what they were. I’ve never seen such plants in Germany before.
Just so that I get back and realize my landlord had one of them growing right in front of our terrace. After the light rain stopped I took out the camera and took a few shots. After some research, I figured out that they are native to the States and this evergreen plant can actually grow up to 3 meters tall!

Finally, the blueberries are ripe! A few weeks ago, I had picked the first ones in our forest. But I barely found a handful. Today, I had a feeling it would be looking different in the woods. I packed a box in the backpack when we were heading out for our walk.
We didn’t get very far when I almost stepped onto the blueberries. They were growing right in the path. I was sure other villagers would also pick them and we would have to go off-trail to find some ripe ones. But not so much. We barely left the trail and picked berries for almost an hour. It’s a slow harvest though. These wild ones are really tiny. But very tasty. I absolutely love them.
This has been my week in photographs. 7 days. 7 photographs. Anyone can join. Once. Or weekly. It doesn’t matter. We welcome everyone! Dennett was the one starting this photography challenge sometime last year and many have participated ever since.
