Summary

Write Under the Moon is a publication accepting diverse submissions from human writers, emphasizing poetry and personal stories, with a preference for unpublished drafts and a strict no-AI policy.

Abstract

The "Write Under the Moon" publication is actively seeking submissions from writers who wish to share their work, including poetry, short stories, and personal essays. The editors invite contributions that reflect individual perspectives and experiences, aiming to create a collective tapestry of human expression. The publication has resumed accepting new writers as of February 1st, 2024, and encourages potential contributors to email their requests rather than commenting on the website. The editors prioritize originality and reserve the right to decline submissions that appear to be generated by AI or contain hateful content. They also provide guidelines for formatting, tagging, and submitting drafts to ensure a smooth publication process. The publication supports new writers and features selected stories in its boosted gallery, adhering to Medium's boost guidelines.

Opinions

  • The editors value human-generated content over AI-generated submissions, seeking authenticity in storytelling.
  • A variety of topics and writing styles are welcomed, but the publication maintains a theme that excludes "how-to" guides, erotica, and content that does not align with the publication's ethos.
  • The publication's theme is heavily inclined towards poetry and personal narratives, with a community-driven approach to inspiration and creativity.
  • The editors emphasize the importance of communication through private notes and adherence to submission guidelines, including the use of proper image citations and title formatting.
  • While the publication does not discriminate against previously published work, unpublished drafts are preferred for optimal visibility and flow within the publication.
  • The editors are committed to a quick turnaround for submissions and actively promote inclusivity by featuring a diverse range of voices.
  • The publication encourages support from its readers and contributors, offering an option to financially contribute to the community's sustainability, though such support is not mandatory nor a factor in publication decisions.

Write Under the Moon Submissions- Updated January 2024

Write with us! But please read through the guidelines and request via email, and not by leaving a comment, as you won’t get added that way.

UPDATE: As of February 1st, 2024, we will start adding new writers again. Please see our updates below to email your request!

My inspiration when I created this publication was for this to be a place where people can feel free to write, create, and inspire under the moon or under the sunshine. Whichever you prefer.

I am more of a nocturnal sort of writer. Once the moon is up, the inspiration starts flying! Writing under the moon is magical to me, and it is important that we write and share the inspirations from the vantage point of how we see life from our individual eyes.

I think when you combine everyone’s visions and perceptions — that is when the magic happens! And life connects.

Thank you for being here! So that brings us to…..

We are accepting submissions!!

The editors are now accepting submissions for the “Write Under the Moon” blog. We’re accepting all topics, for now, that come under the category of poetry, short forms, prose, personal stories, challenges you have overcome, short stories, and anything that has inspired you.

More information about what we accept

Having said that, we get other types of fantastic submissions like Marie A. Rebelle’s book reviews that I truly enjoy reading. Everything usually just flows together in this publication- however, if what you submit doesn’t quite fit the theme here, we may suggest that instead of landing on the moon, you might submit somewhere else. Although this doesn’t happen often, just take the time to look at what we publish here before you request to be added.

Best to publish your “how-to guides” and x amount of steps to becoming a billionaire elsewhere. We also don’t publish erotica- no hate against it, this just isn’t where to read it.

Things like ‘How to Write On Medium and Make Money” or erotica generally do not do as well here as they do not fit with the theme. As you can see, most of our pieces are poetry-related. We also have short stories, usually about personal experiences and fictional stories.

There are plenty of publications on Medium that allow these types of articles, so we encourage you to pursue those avenues.

We do not accept AI

It’s time to address the elephant on the moon. Yes, we know AI is a thing, but we won’t accept it at Write Under the Moon. We’re inhabiting human bodies here, so let’s write with them!

If we get the sense something is AI we reserve the right to decline the submission. We want pieces from human beings who are going through this walk of life.

If our editors suspect AI and feel the piece doesn’t fit, we will come to a collective agreement. If we do this, we will also remove you as a writer.

No hate, please

The editors’ opinions on this part are what matters. Any submissions that give any of us the vibes of hate or ugliness won’t get published.

Private notes

Please make sure you respond to private notes and don’t turn off this feature. We do try to keep everyone’s piece as original as possible, but lately, I’ve had pieces submitted with missing titles and things like that.

We need to communicate with you to get it fixed so we can publish it. If we don’t hear from you within 24 hours, we’ll decline the submission until you can fix it.

Tags

Please include the tag “Write Under the Moon” when submitting a draft for publication.

Wait time

We try to be pretty quick about publishing, usually within a day. It may take longer on weekends and if you submit late at night, but overall, you can expect a fast turnaround.

Multiple submissions

We love that you love submitting your beautiful work here! However, we do need to space it out somewhat. If you submit multiple pieces, we will usually wait at least 24 hours to even it out.

Social media sharing

I do my best to share every submission on the Write Under the Moon Twitter account.

Due to health reasons, I haven’t yet created an official Facebook group for this pub quite yet, but I am looking at it. I’ll update here once something happens.

We prefer drafts

We prefer you to send us unpublished drafts. If you self-publish something first, we won’t decline it, but older stories won’t get the flow and won’t appear at the top of the publication page.

Formatting considerations

Please take your time to do your own edits so your work shines. Although we will make simple edits, it’s best to make sure your piece flows well in every way. If you send something in that needs heavy edits, we will likely leave a private note and in some cases, decline it altogether.

Title and images

Take the time to select a picture and ensure the title is formatted (best to use a title capitalization tool) so it all flows nicely together.

You also need to use the proper citations for your images. Not sure how to do this? Check out the beginner’s guide below!

Beginner’s guide

This beginner’s guide from Marcus aka Gregory Maidman is a fantastic resource that covers the basics of how to format your story.

Boosted gallery

You may notice we have a boosted gallery! Your story is definitely eligible for a boost when you submit a piece here — -we had over 10 boosted stories in November alone, and over 10 in December.

Take the time to look at the boost guidelines to better understand what nominators look for. Make sure to take the time to edit your work and ensure your formatting is correct.

If you would like to get featured on our Medium publication, then you’ll need to:

  1. Set up a Medium account, where you’ll get your own unique username.
  2. Write a story you would like to publish with us and save it as a draft.

You can email us anytime with your Medium account information and your request to be added as a writer. Send your email to our Write Under the Moon email for new writers: [email protected]

I‘ve been having some serious health issues and have days that I am just not able to add new writers constantly. Due to this, I’ve created a new email for Write Under the Moon dedicated to adding new writers. The wonderful moon editors Dave and Edward have kindly agreed to help with this task a few days a week.

They will be checking accounts for AI and ensuring you’re a regular writer here on Medium and ready to become part of our moon community. We would rather not publish someone just one time but instead have people who are passionate about writing.

****ATTENTION**** Just a little note about requesting to be added as a writer in the comments… I see so many comments on this to be added as a writer, but unfortunately, I can’t keep up with writer requests in multiple locations, and I don’t always get notifications. I am but one human! Please send an email with your profile link instead so I have all the requests in one location, and we can add you that way. This also tells us that you’ve read the submission guidelines.

Just to clarify, although supporting the moon is very much appreciated, it’s optional and will not impact your writing status here whatsoever.
