Stung By A Jelly Fish
Scared of the sea
Introduction
During a family holiday to Spain with my in-laws, I was already terrified of the sea (I thank the film Jaws for that!). I had a nightmare after being stung by a jellyfish. This is what the poem represents. I hope you enjoy it.
Ouch
Sun-drenched shores and promised bliss,
A family trip, a lover’s kiss.
With in-laws close, a touch of strain,
But laughter’s song, a welcome rain.
Then, ocean’s call, a playful dare,
Your father plunged, a jellyfish’s snare.
A shriek, a writhe, a lesson learned,
The ocean’s sting, a comfort spurned.
My turn to wade, the waves entice,
But terror lurks, a web of vice.
Visions of tentacles, a searing pain,
Retreat I did, on laughter’s plain.
My love’s bright eyes, with mirth alight,
“Afraid of jelly? What a sight!” she’d quip.
Her playful jabs, a twisted knife,
Though fear, not love, fueled this inner strife.
The day wore on, a salty truce,
Sunburned pride, a lover’s loose
Hold on my heart.
A lesson learned,
Both ocean’s bite, and love’s unturned.
