Stuck in the Abyss

I failed to escape…

An imposingly deep sonorous voice rang out. It had me surrounded, and escape proved impossible. Everywhere I turned led me back to that one spot in the blinding abyss.

One moment I was jumping out of a plane with my beloved, and the next I was here. I’d waited for what seemed like days, but it turned out to be a mere blip in time.

I cried and clenched my fists. I pounded the floor out of pure, unadulterated agony. But relief was not my friend.

I contemplated the voice’s question in its entirety.

“How will you prove your worthiness?”
