Structure Your Writing With the AIDA Formula
It will make your writing more structured and enjoyable to read

Boring…boring…boring…!
Yes, that’s what our mind tells when we read any research paper or any article that sounds so grave and intellectual. We read it to know the information, but we hate to repeat it.
Most probably, we will never read that again in our life until someone puts a gun to our head and forces us to do so.
I mean, seriously, why should you bother reading a boring article twice? You shouldn’t.
I have seen many writers who deliberately make their writings heavy sounding, therefore, boring. They use some rare words, jargon, phrases, etc. to make it so-called standard that ultimately backfire.
It becomes so monotonous that readers fall asleep within a few minutes of reading. Maybe physicians can prescribe this-boring-stuff instead of sleeping pills.
Anyway, writing must not be boring. So don’t kill anyone with your boring-stuff. Make your articles enjoyable to read. And with this AIDA formula, you can do exactly that with almost no effort.
You can experience an incredible shift in your writing and overcome your writers-block as well. Most of all, it will minus the boringness from your writing and make it an interesting one.
Trust me, it’s super easy and fun to practice.
What is AIDA?
AIDA is an acronym developed in 1898 by advertising pioneer E. St. Elmo Lewis. The purpose was to optimize sales calls and the interaction between seller and buyer concerning the product.
AIDA stands for — Attention, Interest, Desire, Action.

All the copywriters know this method, and they are making outstanding progress with their sales by just following this easy formula.
Interestingly, we can use this AIDA formula for any writings. Writing is a form of communication. And when we are doing it interestingly, we are doing it right.
Follow this simple technique to take your writing to the next level. Let’s dive in.
👀 Attention
Okay, go back to the first line of this article. See how I started the post. The sole purpose of writing the opening line is to get your attention.
Grab the attention of your reader from the very first sentence. Start with an interesting-information, a question, fun facts, or anything relevant.
If you think writing complex and high-sounding sentences will reveal your writing genius, you are entirely wrong.
No matter what our old-school teachers taught us about the use of rare words and phrases, please leave that mindset, for god’s sake, because it doesn’t work.
It will only establish you as a boring writer who wants to show off the vocabulary and the grammar-stuff. Grab the attention of your readers with simplicity — by letting them know what you are going to offer in the next.
Do anything, but please do not bore your readers.
🎭 Interest
This part is your playground. Play well with your information and the choice of words, sentences, and structures. Incorporate relevant information and let the reader grow their interest in what you are offering.
Describe what you have in your bag. Make sure your information is flowing well.
In this part, elaborate on the thoughts, ideas, or subject matter.
If it’s about a product, you should tell them about what it offers and what makes it different from the existing ones available. If it’s just a piece of information or thoughts, describe how it can help the readers or enhance their knowledge.
Encourage your readers to research further. Keep the curiosity alive in their minds.
🌼 Desire
In this section, build an emotional connection. You can add your thoughts and experiences to make your readers more engaged in the article.
If they found it interesting, they will desire to read more and fall in love with what you offer to them.
Ask yourself what makes your article different from others. Why will anyone desire to read your one instead of all the materials available online?
Is it the subject matter? Is it how you are describing it? Is it for your insights? Is it for your outstanding writing style?
Ask yourself questions like these, and find out your strength to produce writing that encourages readers to read and desire for more.
👊 Action
Everyone loves this part. It’s called CTA (Call To Action). Here, you can directly ask your readers to engage with the writings of yours or the topic you are describing.
It can be a link to your other writing, a subscription form, an ebook-link, your website, youtube channel, etc. You may recommend a good book or a relevant source for further reading as well.
But make sure you are not offering your readers too many options. Make it one or two. Don’t overwhelm your readers with tons of CTAs.
How You Can Structure Your Story Using AIDA
Assume that you are writing an article about plastic pollution. Now first select your title, focusing on what you want to describe in your writing. Then set a clear objective to stay focused.
Let’s do it.
Title 01: Plastic is silently killing our oceans Title 02: We are drowning in plastic waste (write at least four titles and choose the best one)
Objective: To aware the readers of the devastating effect of plastic pollution. (setting an objective is crucial to stay focused while writing any story/article)
Attention
Have you ever seen a river where dolphins and plastics surf together?
You may begin with a question like this. You can also choose any shocking facts about plastic that quickly grab the attention of your readers.
🌟Grab your readers' attention by letting them know one or two terrible facts about plastic pollution 🌟Tell them how much plastic we consume unknowingly 🌟Give hints about the devastating effect of plastic pollution
Interest
🌟Expand plastic pollution with relevant information 🌟Make every point precise and easy to understand 🌟Give them a few examples of how we are destroying the planet with plastic. 🌟Exhibits the present and future threats in detail 🌟But don’t overwhelm readers with too much information
Desire
🌟Connect to your reader’s emotion 🌟Show how they are contributing to this disaster. 🌟Give hints to them what they can do to stop this mess.
Action
🌟Suggest some solutions to address this problem 🌟Tell your readers what they should do to fight against plastic pollution and save the oceans. 🌟You can exhibit how simple mindfulness about the usage of plastic can make a big difference. 🌟Lastly, you may suggest another useful article or a relevant source (book, magazine, etc.) for further reading.
Final Thoughts
You can write whatever you want. It’s okay. You have the power as nobody is getting your keyboard away from you.
But when you are writing on a platform where other people will read your stories, make sure you are not producing boring stuff.
Use this simple AIDA method and make your writing smooth and captivating. Make it an enjoyable experience for readers to have.
Have fun and keep enjoying the writing.
