Stormy Weather!

A Prism & Pen writing prompt

(l to r) Bob the Drag Queen, Shangela and Eureka O’Hara take small-town America by storm on HBO’s We’re Here.

I had coffee with a thunderstorm this morning, sipping on my front porch watching lightning and a downpour take my little village by storm. I thought of HBO’s “We’re Here,” in which fabulous drag queens take a small American town by storm — by sharing their lives and stories.

When we queer folks share our stories, sometimes we’re our own audience, sometimes we’re reaching out to others, and sometimes we’re just doing what humans so well — using stories to light up our worlds.

At Prism & Pen, were about all that. We aim to unleash a storm of stories from all corners of the queer world, so what better prompt than our new two-week challenge?

It’s time to write about Stormy Weather!

Read this challenge any way you like. We’re calling for fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry. You can write about any kind of Stormy Weather you can dream up. Take the prompt literally, treat it as metaphor, or weave something completely outside expectations.

What matters is you, your storytelling perspective, your poetry or prose. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

P&P’s challenge round 5 starts today —

Not written with us before? Here’s the link to our submissions guidelines. Hope to hear from you soon!
