7 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO SPEND YOUR TIME
Stop Wasting Your Life.
Try This Instead.

How you spend your time determines how you spend your life, so when we get caught in the cycle of eat, work, sleep, repeat — it becomes relatively easy to forget about the good stuff in life.
Unless you absolutely adore what you do for work — hopefully you do, but many don’t — , life can start to just drag by in a seamless blur.
So since we have to work anyways, we might as well find some ways to make the best out of the time that we do have.
I’ve made it a little easier for you by compiling below a list of seven tips/activities that helped me learn to live a more fulfilling life.
Learn To Live In The Moment
When people become aware that their time is running out, they’re more likely to savor the time that they have – living in the moment.
By learning to live in the moment, we allow ourselves the crucial ability to derive more from our 24 hour day than previously thought possible.
Have a morning ritual
Our rituals are what bind us to our goals. The key to accomplishing your dreams lies in the tradition of a morning ritual.
You see, when someone sets a goal (a task to be accomplished by a specific deadline), the first thing to do is write out a set of steps to achieve that goal.
The next step usually involves following through on the task, but for more long-term goals, I find it essential to set specific times to accomplish said goal.
That’s why I always plan them into my morning ritual. That way, I can accomplish my big personal goals before I even have to prepare for work!
Plan your day in advance
My weekdays generally blur by similarity. I follow my morning ritual, go to work, come home, chant gongyo, and spend the evening with my wife. My days off are different. Those are my days to rewind, relax, or tackle a huge goal.
If you’re anything like me, days unplanned go by in a blur, which is why I always make sure to plan my days off in advance.
Schedule a time to wake up (or don’t and sleep in), block off segments of time to read, write, play video games, or whatever suits you. Just take some time to plan it out, or you’ll regret it, and don’t get angry if something comes up.
Put aside a large chunk of time for reading
If you’re gonna plan out the day, might as well add some reading into the mix.
It’s a great way to spend time, and prolonged periods of reading can be quite relaxing and good for the mind (as long as it’s not about politics).
So grab some coffee or a cup of tea, find a relaxing spot and hit the books (no, not literally).
Start a Garden
I decided to start a garden with my wife during the COVID-19 lockdowns. It took some time to grow as we planted everything from seed, but I am so happy we did.
Taking the time to nurture a garden to health takes patience and discipline, yet it’s enjoyable and rewarding. Nothing beats a homegrown salad!
Now that I’m back at work, I don’t spend as much time in the garden trimming leaves, checking for pests and the such, yet I still find plenty of time each morning to water the plants and feed them nutrients. It’s a part of my morning ritual and brings a sense of harmony to my day.
Start a Journal
Can you imagine opening up a dusty journal from over a decade ago, only to find your very own thoughts and opinions from almost an entirely different version of you? It’s exhilarating.
Spending time writing in a journal provides a sense of clarity in my life, allowing me to identify appropriate ways to spend my time and the people, activities, and places that I should avoid.
Just like journals are useful for discovering a better you, they’re also good at identifying the parts of you that need some work.
