Stop Wasting Time Playing Video Games
How I quiet video games and you should too

Are you struggling to find a balance between playing video games and getting things done? Do you find yourself putting off important tasks to play “just one more level or game”? It’s time to stop letting video games control your life.
In this blog, I will teach you how to set boundaries and prioritize your time, so you can enjoy gaming without sacrificing your productivity and progress. I quit almost all my time playing video games. I only play sometimes with friends.
The Problem with Excessive Gaming
There are two problems with excessive gaming physical and mental. a. Physical health effects
Physical effects are that you don’t move enough per day and get lazy. You can get tension in your body if you play for long times, especially in your neck. You should also generally have a good office chair to work on. I for example have one without a backrest. b. Mental health effects
Mental effects are that it feels not fulfilled if you play for a long time and don’t get lots of things done. Another effect is that some people get very angry while playing if they lose a game. I heard from a friend that he destroyed his controller while playing FIFA because he lost a match.
It impacts productivity a lot if you play video games in the morning. I experienced that also in the past. I played in the morning video games that lead so to don’t have lots of motivation to do something else later.
Setting Boundaries
If you are now convinced to reduce your time playing video games I want to give you some tips to reduce it.
You should make a schedule that you first do your tasks and then one 1 hour in the evening in the calendar only for this.
Use timers or alarms
You should also activate timers or alarms so that you don’t play longer than the dedicated time. Playing sometimes video games is okay, but it should be in your control how long you play.
Reduce the time over time
I would recommend reducing your video game time every day until you have your dream time. If you play today for 3 hours and want to get to 1 hour you should make every day 15 minutes less. This is more likely to work than you do directly for 1 hour and then play longer than you want.
General I would only do video games if you have completed everything for the day that you need to do. In the past I often didn’t do this. I learned the lesson and hope you don’t make the same mistake.
Alternatives to Gaming
Doing more physical exercises is a great way to get a balance in life. I experienced that also that sport gives you a balance between work or studying. b. Creative hobbies
Having a creative hobby like YouTube is also great to use the timer for. If YouTube is too difficult for you, you can also start writing a blog from zero for free on Medium.
Learning a new skill or language
Learning new skills or language is always useful to do for work and personal life. I discovered a short time ago a platform called Coursera. It has free courses from universities like Yale, you only pay there for courses if you want to get a certificate.
For language learning apps like Babble are great. You can also do a language trip if you are more advanced in the language and want to get to a new level.
Doing alternatives to gaming a for sure better than playing. You also work with alternatives to a long-term goal. Gaming gives you only short-term fun.
