Stop Saying Half of Americans Chose Trump. No, They Didn’t.
America actually *is* better than that.

Have you ever lived with a drama queen?
I have. Everything is OMG. Omg, this happened. Omg, that happened. It’s bloody exhausting. Sucks the air right out of the room.
Hell, y’all lived with a drama queen in the White House for 4 years. I don’t care if you like him or not. You can’t deny that he’s a button pusher. He’s a reality tv guy. That’s what reality tv does. Pushes buttons.
The news media ate that up like double chocolate brownies. They piggyback on it. And you know why. Because clicks are cash. Aren’t you tired of it yet?
Yes? So why are you perpetuating it.
Look. America’s roots aren’t pretty. We get that.
Let’s be honest. Just blunt facts. America’s roots are not pretty. Not anything to be proud of. Escaped British royalty to create something just as ugly.
America was built on the back of slaves
1619. That’s when the first ship arrived bringing the first slaves to America. Some 600,000 slaves ripped away from homes and families against their will.
America, land of opportunity. Long as you’re a rich white man. Rich enough to own slaves to do your work for free. It took y’all 246 years and a civil war to figure out owning another human being wasn’t actually okay.
Hell, the White House was built by slaves.
Women were property, too.
In early America, a woman’s rights depended on marital status. Unmarried? Great. Live where you want, and work any job you want. As long as it didn’t require a license or degree. Those were for men.
Oh? And your salary? That went to your Daddy if you lived at home. Because women were property, too. Passed from father to husband. No school for you. Just finishing school. To learn to be a good wife.
Once you landed a man, coverture kicked in. Which means women could not own property. Because she was property. And if she had to work, her wages went to her husband. Also? He owned the kids, too. He owned everything.
Hell, women didn’t even get to vote until 1920. And that was just white ladies. Black women? Keep fighting, honey.
The Nazis learned from America.
Sorry to be so blunt. It’s fact. The Holocaust is widely recognized as one of the world’s ugliest slices of history. And you know what the Nazis said afterward, at the Nuremburg trials? Well, we were just doing what America does.
And they weren’t wrong. Eugenics started in America.
Ever heard of a Mississippi appendectomy? That’s when doctors told colored women they needed their appendix out. And they woke up with no uterus. That’s your history, folks. Gross, right?
You couldn’t make this shit up. If someone wrote a fiction story about an imaginary country that perpetrated all the atrocities America has, a publisher would reject it and say it’s not even believable. Yet here we are.
People change. If you don’t believe me, I have 3 words for you.
Not all of us change. Some folk are never going to change. They’d rather die with heart full of hate than look in the mirror at who they really are.
Walking around full of hate and superiority while pretending to be good “Christians.” I know people like that. I know you do, too.
We have not changed fast enough.
There is no reason, in 2020, that a woman is still raped every 2 minutes in America. No reason for 80 cents on the dollar, rampant poverty or anyone dying because they can’t afford a doctor.
No reason employed people should have to get food stamps to eat, no reason for CEO’s to earn 1000 times what they pay employees. No reason for black people to teach their children how not to get shot if they get stopped by police.
No reason for what happened to Breonna Taylor or George Floyd and no reason for a lot of what happens in America.
Big wheels turn slow. But we do change. Slowly and painfully, but surely.
If you don’t believe me, I have 3 words for you. Stacey Abrams Georgia.
Stop Saying Half of Americans Chose Trump.
No. They didn’t. I’m not even American and I know that. Sitting up here in Canada, shaking my damn head at the drama squad.
America actually *is* better than that.
It’s just math, folks. Yes, some 71 million people voted for Trump.
As of Nov. 2020, there are 255,200,373 adults over 18 in the USA. 71 million is 27% of adults in America.
In what world is 27% equal to half?
Did you go to school? Do you math? Hell, I can’t even blame that on the education system. That one’s all on you.
Think of it like dollars. Is 27 cents half a dollar?
Here’s a hard one. Do you know what 100 minus 27 is? (Hint. It’s 73.) 73% of Americans did not vote for Donald Trump.
Stop saying half of Americans chose Trump. That’s drama queen crap. Omg. omg, drama for clicks. It’s exactly what has exhausted everyone for more than four years. So stop already.
73% of adults in America did not vote for Donald Trump.
Read that again. A white man cussed out colored people and women and 73% of ya’ll said no thank you. That’s not us. Not anymore.
Maybe y’all could try having a little pride in that?
Let the drama rest. The next two months are going to have enough of that.
If you’re needing clicks, maybe write about how to make money on Medium. Or tell people why they’re broke. Or what time to wake. Or what they ought to be doing in the morning. That crap works real well here, too.
73% of adults in America did not vote for Donald Trump.
I know. I keep saying it. I’m stunned. Happy kind of stunned. I am so proud of you.
Seeing as America is the land of opportunity, there’s a great one in front of you. Maybe y’all could sell tickets to watch him dragged out of the White House? You could pay off the national debt and start over.
On the right foot. Not the white foot.
