STOP Posting Youtube Videos Consistently If You Really Want Your Channel To Grow

Photo by Christian Wiediger on Unsplash

In July 2021, I started a Youtube channel focused on teaching others how to make money online using Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) and other income streams.

I remember telling myself, “Just post once a week consistently and success will follow.” But as I would later discover, there was so much more to it.

I waited for 18 long months before my channel got monetised in January. I only had around 2k subs at the time, but since then, my channel has grown to more than 11k subs.

I wish I knew then what I know now; the journey could have been faster, smoother, and certainly less stressful.

I’ll share 3 tips that helped to explode my Youtube channel.

1. Create Content About Trends

Most of my content initially was about my KDP journey. This was what I was comfortable with and it had a consistent very small audience.

However, things took a different turn when I began exploring trending topics such as artificial intelligence and other emerging trends in the publishing industry. The results were almost instantaneous. My views skyrocketed, my subscriber count surged, and so did my earnings.

I found that incorporating trending topics in my niche not only attracted new viewers but also kept my existing subscribers engaged. It helped my viewers to understand new and unconventional methods to find success with self-publishing and I have had many positive from my subscribers

I advise any aspiring YouTuber to keep an eye on trends and find creative ways to align them with your content. If you create trending content with your own unique idea and spin you will have first movers advantage over other content creators.

Although, once viewers start finding your content through trending videos, it’s also important to have a strong foundation of videos that they can watch and benefit from as this will turn a viewer into a subscriber and keep them around long term.

2. Commit to YouTube

The common advice you’ll hear is “be consistent.” And while there’s truth to that, it’s not the full picture.

I got into the habit of uploading a video once a week but I was not committing to improving my content, developing the audio, looking at my stats and doing the extras needed to take my channel to the next level. This can be the issue with uploading consistently as you can just try to do the minimum each week and get a video up to stick with the schedule.

What worked for me was going all-in on YouTube. By this, I mean I took a big step back, I took a break from uploading and I started studying my analytics, understanding my audience’s behavior, and knowing the best times to post my content.

I also began analysing trending content, identifying how I could make my videos different from the rest. I realised that many trending videos about AI were engaging and fun to watch but most of them lacked depth and were not truly focusing on real methods to earn money.

This observation led me to create more in-depth, informative, and beginner-friendly tutorial videos about using AI to make money with Amazon KDP. The more I did this, the more my videos began to gain traction.

This positive feedback loop then motivated me to create more content, more often and now I try to post 2–3 times a week.

3. Redirect Traffic to Your Content

YouTube is a vast platform, and your videos can easily get lost in the sea of content. That’s why I started finding creative ways to direct traffic to my channel.

I began by creating YouTube Shorts, which allowed me to share brief, clips from my long form videos whilst linking them in the description. I also use community posts to interact with my subscribers and to promote old videos they might have missed.

To further drive traffic, I started writing articles on Medium about the topics I discuss in my videos. These articles not only provided an additional platform for my audience to engage with my content, but they also served as a way to link back to my videos, generate more traffic and earn extra affiliate income.

Final Thoughts

Growing a YouTube channel is not just about posting videos consistently. It’s about understanding trends, committing to the platform, and finding creative ways to drive traffic to your content. As I look back, I’m grateful for the 13k subscribers milestone.

But what excites me even more is the potential for growth that lies ahead. With these strategies at my disposal, I’m confident that the sky is the limit.
