How Much I Made My First Month Monetised on Youtube with 6000+ Subscribers

560 days, to be exact is how long it took me to get my channel monetised on youtube.
I uploaded my first video on the 20th July 2021 about my first year on Amazon KDP and how much I had made. This video received much initial encouragement and helped me towards reaching my first 100 youtube subscribers.
My next few videos had really good engagement which began to build my confidence in creating videos. I decided to base my channel around Amazon KDP and making money online.
The journey to monetisation was a long, tedious challenge however I stayed consistent and I keep posting. 57 videos and 18 months later, I was finally accepted onto the youtube partner programme.
How You Get Paid By Youtube
To get paid through YouTube, you need to first monetise your content by joining the YouTube Partner Program:
- Meet the eligibility requirements: You must have 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months.
- Set up an AdSense account: AdSense is run by Google and it allows you to earn money from ads on your YouTube videos. You will need to link your YouTube account to an AdSense account to get paid.
- Enable monetisation on your videos: You need to enable monetisation on your videos. This will allow you to run ads on your videos so you can earn money from them.
I got accepted onto the youtube partner program on 31st January 2023 and earned $22.34 for that day.
My stats for the month of February 2023
I had over 83,000 views in February, with two videos that significantly boosted my channel’s watch time hours and subscribers helping me to earn $281.06.
The income earned on YouTube depends on many factors, including the number of views, ad formats, type of content, and audience. The creator’s specific metrics for measuring income earned from ads on YouTube include cost per mil (CPM) and revenue per mil (RPM).
CPM is the amount of money earned per 1,000 views of an ad. It is calculated by dividing the total earnings from ads by the number of ad impressions (or views) and then multiplying that number by 1,000.
RPM measures the estimated revenue per 1,000 video views. This includes revenue from all sources, including ads, channel memberships, and YouTube Premium. RPM is calculated by dividing the estimated earnings by the number of views and then multiplying by 1,000.
To make it simple, CPM is what advertiser pay per 1000 views and RPM is what you get per 1000 views.
My RPM was $3.28 which is quite low for the type of niche that I’m in. I spoke with some fellow Youtubers in my niche and they mentioned that your first month is usually lower as Youtube is trying to figure out your content and it should increase during the second month which I have seen happen.
The country where your YouTube audience is located can have a significant impact on your YouTube income. The reason is that different countries have different levels of advertiser demand, which can result in different CPM rates for ads served in those countries.
Advertisers in the United States tend to pay higher CPM rates than advertisers in other countries because the US has a large and highly competitive advertising market. So, if your audience is primarily located in the US, you may earn a higher CPM rate and therefore a higher income from ads on your videos.
On the other hand, if your audience is located in countries with lower advertiser demand, you may earn a lower CPM rate and therefore a lower income from ads.
My top earning content for the month include 2 AI related videos. It’s important that you don’t ignore trending content and you try to relate it to your niche. This drove more viewers to my channel and lead to a huge boost on my channel.
Watch page ads are the various types of ads that you can place on your youtube videos. I was surprised that skippable video ads earned me the most income as I would have thought non-skippable ads would have made me the most. I use this information to get a better understanding of which ads to use and where to place them.

Making money from Youtube is very challenging and it can take a long time but it paid off for me in the end. I have provided you with the process to get monetised, my first month earnings, my top earning content and watch page ads.
