Stop Commenting and Start Writing

This is a mistake everybody makes, from newbies to professionals

For once, you read an excellent article. One that you would boost if you could. One that stirs your emotions so much that you write a comment with several paragraphs in response.

Big mistake.

From a cynical viewpoint, Medium doesn’t pay for comments, so why write them?

But even from a literary and intellectual standpoint, it’s a mistake.

Instead of a knee-jerk long-ass comment, take the time to think about the issue, edit your thoughts, and write a story from it.

If you insist, write two lines of comment on the original piece with a link to your detailed response.

Tag the writer who inspired you, and add a link to their article at the end. It’s the polite thing to do, and, best case scenario, the original author might add a link to your response at the end of their story if it’s good enough.
