Stillness Within Motion — Bee and Borage

March Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Movement”

A halo of motion around stillness

What does it feel like to linger in the air, knees dusted with pollen, amongst a forest of borage, a stillness of wing within motion?

The eye cannot see all the details.

The sun warm on his back, spring’s breath in his hair, anticipation patters within his tiny breast.

A gift for his queen lies near.

This flower’s untouched. Pure pleasure awaits. A zap so electric it tickles his toes. He can’t see it, but he knows there’s a moment when wing, breeze and stamen come together to create a little jolt.

Oh, I wonder what it feels like — to hover in the borage? Stillness in motion. Sometimes I wish I was a bee.

If a flower has not been pollinated recently, the touch of a bee creates a little jolt of electricity. Bees develop a negative charge when flying and flowers develop a positive charge just by swaying in the breeze. A bee can tell if another bee has recently visited a flower by the lack of a “zap” of electricity when the bee and flower touch.

It does make you wonder if that little jolt, when the bee lands, knee-deep, in an un-pollinated blossom, gives it pleasure.
