Steamed Vegetable and Paneer Momos
This is an authentic, high protein diet that a non-meat eater should try

Momos are always on the top of my favorite list. On my way back home from my 8 to 5 job, this is my companion food which makes my stress go away within few minutes. Try making food the reason for your smile, and you will have a colorful life.
This recipe is the Indian version of the Nepali momos recipe which is made from grated and spice paneer. I feel like this could be a great party starter dish or appetizer which can be served just before the meal. It can also be enjoyed as an evening snack. I would say that it doesn’t require any side dish, but it tastes superb with spicy momos chutney and mayonnaise.
Food makes me happy. It helped me work round the clock.
This dish is the traditional delicacy snack from Nepali cuisines. It is generally made with finely chopped freshly harvested vegetables. If you want to make chicken momos, then minced meat is also used as stuffing for the momos.
This Indian version of momos is very unique due to the presence of grated paneer and veggies. It is heavenly for a paneer lover to see momos transformed into such a wonderful snack filled with paneer stuffing.
Ingredients
For dough
- 1 1/2 cup maida (you can also use plain flour in place of maida)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp oil
- Water (for kneading the dough)
For making the stuffing of the momos
- 3 tsp vegetable oil
- 3 clove garlic finely chopped
- 1 chili finely chopped
- 4 tbsp finely chopped spring onions
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
- 2 tbsp chopped capsicum
- 1 cup grated paneer/ cottage cheese
- 1/2 tsp salt (as per requirement)
Instructions for making these paneer vegetable momos
1. Knead a smooth dough (The most important part of the recipe)
To make the dough for the momos, take a large bowl and combine all-purpose flour, salt and oil together properly. Bind all the ingredients together by adding little water at a time. Make sure to make the dough soft. Once the dough is ready, cover it with the help of a clean, wet cloth and keep it aside for further use.
Later when the stuffing will be ready, we will be using the dough to make momos.
2. Preparing the stuffing for the momos
Stuffing should be perfect for the momos to be tasty. Take a large bowl to make the stuffing. Add white chopped cabbage, green peppercorns, coriander leaves, ginger, salt (as per taste), grated paneer, chopped onions, garlic, and green chilies. Mix all the ingredients properly and keep them aside.
3. Giving momos a shape
Now to make the momos, take the dough that you kept aside and divide the dough into small balls of equal size. Now take a ball and roll it with the help of a roller, add some flour dust if needed and roll it thin. Give it a circular shape. Make sure to roll the ball as thin as possible.
Now add some stuffing at the center of the circle, lift both sides of the circle and start folding the edges. Seal them together by applying little water at the edges. Keep the stuffed momos aside and make sure to cover them with a wet cloth. Follow the same procedure to make the remaining momos.
4. Steam the momos
Once all the momos are done, remove the wet cloth from them and take them on a plate. No prepare the steamer. Steam these momos in the steamer/ momo stand/ idli stand for 15–20 minutes n a medium flame.
5. Serve hot
To make the spicy momo chutney, take some water in a pressure cooker and add tomatoes, garlic chilies, and pressure cook the ingredients for 1 whistle. After the whistle, turn off the flame and let the pressure release on its own.
Once the pressure is released, take ut the tomatoes, garlic, and chilies and let them cool down. Blend them in a mixer smoothly after they are cooled. Make a smooth paste without adding water into the mixer. Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl, and add salt, mustard oil, and coriander leaves. Mix all the ingredients well and serve the hot momos with this spicy chutney.
I have previously shared a vegetable momos recipe. If you liked this one, then you should also try that one. Here is it :)
Momos could be a great snack and that can make your evening. Try them out and keep smiling :).
