Abstract

In the poem "Sprouted," Jonathan Greene captures the essence of an unexpected surge of hope that arises amidst the routine and confinement of everyday life. This hope is likened to a tiny sprout that, despite its size, burns brightly and has the potential to ignite a much larger fire. The poem emphasizes the power of mindfulness and gratitude in nurturing this sprout of hope, suggesting that even in a diminished and challenging existence, there is the possibility for something greater to take root and flourish.

  • The author expresses a belief in the transformative power of small beginnings, like the sprout, to evolve into something substantial and life-altering.

A Poem

It was a glimmer of hope that sprouted inside of me catching me off-guard within the daily doldrums of this humdrum existence behind four walls and glassed windows looking out at a world rotating without us

It’s a very tiny glimmer but one that shines bright a small trajectory of light trying to transcend and become so much more while I use kindle to try to stoke it so it has at least a chance of becoming hope

It was a small idea that sprouted inside of me an act of mindfulness an aura of gratitude that made me remember that these sprouts were the beginning of something greater, the beginning of life

Maybe life is smaller now and dimly lit with broken bulbs and downtrodden hope but this tiny sprout still has wattage to spare and a will to burn until it’s so bright that it starts a fire
