Roots
A Poem
Grounded by the pull to Earth I remain anchored within The world swirls around me But I remain held by my roots These roots tie me to my past, but also to my future because I would never be here today without the roots that were laid by those that came before me
When I feel pulled from my place I sink in deeper and remain stalwart because my roots are strong, built on the backs of generations who keep ahold of my limbs They won’t let me fly up and out into this world because they sacrificed too much to have me blow away
That’s why they grew these roots Underground and underfoot Not to be noticed, but to be tethered back to our first days on Earth Of nature, of mirth Together as universe Bound by our roots
