Scribe Writing Prompt — On the road to spring

A breath of song invades the air, a slice of spring. Is winter done?

Cold hard darkness has lost its grip upon the fist of feathered breast and tender claw, both tucked away in darkened days, but dreaming now — a remembrance of downy fluff and nests to build.

My heart, it too, has quickened. Hope bursts free from dormancy.

Spattered song, a promise of nature’s constancy — like sap rising in the throats of trees, or crocus nibs or hyacinth bursting free from mycelium — it hums along beneath my feet and rises to the throats of birds.

Alive.

All is alive.

Frigidity yet lingers, fingers tight. But spring now wields a sweeter sword.

Thank you to Thomas Gaudex for the Scribe Writing Prompt “On the Road to Spring.”
