Spread The Virus
Of compassion and care: a POMprompt poem

It is clear from the state Of our blue spinning globe, We need to spread infection From abode to abode.
“What’s this?!” I hear you say, “What madness she sprouts! Not more disease and illness! In her sanity, we doubt!”
But just wait and listen, It’s true, you shall see, It’s the spread of kindness, Good spirit, empathy.
Stop thinking of panic and pathogens, Of anxiety, of germs, It’s not the spread of misinformation, That needs to be affirmed,
It’s the infection of friendship, Of kindness to those in need, Of lending a hand to others, Ignoring hysteria and greed.
A virus of another sort, Whilst scientists work hard, To figure all this out; They go the extra yard!
It’s not panic and hoarding, How much toilet paper can you use? You can’t eat it, you see, So how about we choose
Another way of behaving That’s inclusive and that’s kind, Where you drop a note through a door, Help a neighbor who’s in a bind.
It’s this thinking of others, That should be the real infection, Love, compassion, calm, understanding, Should be the community injection.
So during this time of isolation, Think far outside your home, Keep your heart and eyes open, Despite the fact you cannot roam.
Turn off the news, the social panic, Take a deep breath of fresh air, Be kind and careful with yourself, The whole world is here to care.
In these uncertain times, it is important to care for each other and ourselves. Maybe as humanity gets to grip with this global event, we can reflect on what is important, what really matters, how we treat people, how the vulnerable are treated? Perhaps even the impact we have on the earth and what happens when we slow down a little.
For me, personally, it means no income for a month. That’s pretty scary. So I need to focus on the positive — to keep my head above water and out of the dark.
Keep writing beautiful things ❤
