Spirituality isn’t intimidating you; Your mindset is.

Spirituality is a broad topic. It has room for a lot of perspectives. There’s something for everyone and everything for someone. That vast spirituality is.

However, most of us perceive spirituality as a thing of saints. The reason people are scared of spirituality is “commitment.”

Last week, I was commuting in a public transit reading a spiritual book. A commuter sitting beside me gave me a stern look and whispered in a low voice, “Another meditation person!” I was like, “Dude! Get your facts right. Meditation is not Spirituality. Spirituality is beyond just sitting in stillness.”

Though I did not entertain him much, I thought there might be many people who misunderstand spirituality. Holding onto the false notions and believing in them distances them from what they deserve.

“Spirituality is not another way leading to Almighty. It isn’t a religion. Spirituality is knowledge — an awareness about our existence and purpose.Spirituality is a realization of ourself.”

Everyone deserves the right to be loved, peaceful, happy, blissful, powerful, pure, knowledgeful, and joyful. As a consequence, these seven secrets belong to you too.

Moreover, understanding those seven gifts from spirituality, or I would say seven immortal truths of life, or the seven pillars of spirituality, can awake us from our deepest sleep. Understanding the basics of spirituality made me realize how things work in this material world, my real identity, and my role. I hope they do the same for you.

The Knowledge of Our True Self

We all had been living under the illusion of being a body. Because of which we have been searching everywhere to seek comfort. But, spirituality enlightens our minds by throwing light on the truth that “we all are souls.”

Spirituality is built based on the fact that we are an eternal consciousness and a non-physical entity.

Many of us call it by different names like spirit, holy ghost, Atma(In Hindi), etc.

“The soul is not the body and it may be in one body or in another, and pass from body to body.”-Giordano Bruno

A very famous psychologist, physician, and philosopher named Dr. Raymond Moody conducted many experiments using “hypnotic regressions” and interviewed hundreds of patients who were declared “clinically dead.” In his book, “Life after Life,” he concluded:

“We all are immortal souls in these mortal coils.”

The Karma Philosophy

This a very famous law of cause and effect that we have known for a while. The Hindu ideology (Rigveda before c. 1500 BCE) was the first to discover Karma’s philosophy.

This philosophy is not just the law of cause and effect. It is more than that. Karma is much deeper than our understanding.

This law also confirms that it is the soul that does all the Karma and not the body. Most of us do not believe it, but what could be the possible reason for a child to be born with a physical deformity.

What wrong could the child have done, who has just taken birth?

According to the law of Karma, whether we believe it or not, it is the effect of the karma done in the past birth. This fact also clarifies that the soul has traveled from the previous birth (costume of the body ).

Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American essayist, also quoted in his works:

“The soul comes from without into the human body, as into a temporary abode, and it goes out of it anew… it passes into other habitations, for the soul is immortal.”

Hence, through this concept, spirituality encourages us to cultivate divine qualities like humility, patience, universal love, contentment, etc., to free the soul from any defilement.

The Universal-Brotherhood Concept

The concept of world-brotherhood under the Fatherhood of one Almighty is a famous one. But we hardly realize it. By bolstering this concept in our minds, we would have a constant awareness to love one another as we believe to be brotherly souls and the children of one Almighty.

Like the second fact, this truth also relates to the first one affirming that Almighty is a soul, but the Supreme one.

Almighty is addressed as a Father-Mother, not because he created the souls, like a potter makes pots, but he is like a father figure in terms of Knowledge, Peace, Purity, Joy, etc.

This concept emphasizes establishing a connection with the Supreme soul to draw spiritual strength from him to bring about a sense of universal brotherhood.

Helen Keller also believed in this spiritual concept:

“The idea of brotherhood re-dawns upon the world with a broader significance than the narrow association of members in a sect or creed”.

P.S: India had been following this concept for ages because of its mention in the ancient scriptures (before any religious books ), and it still preaches “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam(in Sanksrit),” whose English translation is “The Whole World is One Family.”

This feeling of oneness can help us erase all the discrimination about caste, creed, color, age, or religion.

The Practical Knowledge for Life

Many of us term spirituality as a practice, which Saints and Sadhus can only do. But it is a myth.

The saints renounce the world to concentrate better. It’s very easy to do that. But a real Yogi is the one who lives amidst the worldly life yet remains detached. Spirituality teaches us to live in the real world with a detached mindset.

Spirituality attempts to change our outlook and attitudes by teaching us life lessons. It makes us realize our true identity gives us an ennobling and enlightening worldview and self-view to understand the concept of space and time. In a way, it encourages inner transformation.

It also teaches us that there is a potentiality of divinity within ourselves that can be rekindled and reawakened to glow again. We can attain this state when we remove all the ill and evil thoughts from our minds.

Consequently, when our mind is free from any clutter of negativity, we can easily find solutions to our daily problems. Meditation is one just tool that helps us do that.

The Indigenous Meditation

The meditation that we all have been talking about and learning these days is the gift from spirituality.

The original spiritual mediation consisted of just two elements (two thoughts). One is to realize ourselves as a soul (a self-luminous point of light) and then remember the supreme soul (also a subtle point of light). This type of meditation was the original Rajyoga (The Meditation for Mastering oneself).

But various kinds of meditation practices throughout the world have overshadowed the original type.

By following spiritual meditation, we can feel the oneness, purity, and divinity of our persona and behavior. Scientists have proved the usefulness of meditation in dealing with mental illnesses.

The World Had a Better Order

Through this concept, spirituality states that the world, in the beginning, had morally, socially, politically, ethnically, culturally, and economically a better order. The original characteristics of the soul. (i.e., Peace, Purity, Love, Happiness, Joy, etc.) formed that divine universe.

It further explains that when everyone was in the soul-conscious state, the world was a paradise. Some of us know it as the Satyuga or the Golden Age, where deities lived peacefully and happily.

But as time progressed and when the man started living in the body-conscious stage, the evil entered our minds in the form of vices like lust, anger, hatred, ego, pride, sloth, etc.

Consequently, this led to degradation from the golden age to the iron age.

But, if we again start to realize and live in the soul-conscious state, we can also transform this world into a paradise, as it was before. By doing so, we would be able to see each other beyond their physical appearances.

There Exists an Extraterrestrial Region

Spirituality also states an extraterrestrial region, where life exists in the celestial form (without the mortal body). It is beyond the sun and stars, and the galaxies are called the “World Of Incorporeal Souls.”

Many of us know it by different names like Brahmlok, ParamDham(Highest Abode), etc. Also, it states that before coming into this world drama stage, souls dwell there in the peaceful and discarnate state along with the Supreme Almighty Father.

Furthermore, it states that after coming into this world and taking multiple births, the soul becomes vicious. The Almighty must descend from the Highest abode through the divine kind of incarnation to liberate all souls and escort them back to their real home.

Parting Thoughts

When we look closely at all these facts, we can say that we are not the mortal body, for sure. Moreover, when we realize our original form, i.e., soul, we can experience divinity around us and spread the same.

Besides, living with awareness about these gifts changes our perspective towards everything because now we are looking through the third eye of spiritual wisdom.
