“Soviet Style” is back?
“Soviet style” is a new conservative talking point as Democrats compare Republicans to “a mob,’’ holding secret hearings where the House minority isn’t welcome.
More than two-thirds of Americans say America could be “on the edge of a civil war’’ according to Georgetown University’s Battleground Poll civility survey.
The same poll found 87 percent are frustrated with the rudeness of modern politics while 84 percent said they are “tired of leaders compromising my values and ideals.’’
U. S. Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La.,, used the term “Soviet style” repeatedly Wednesday to describe the secret closed hearings. U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs echoed his message. Conservatives media is similarly using the term.
Like dissidents blocking the tanks in China 30 years ago, dozens of Republicans came in masse to demand entry to the “Soviet Style” secret hearings , which were then delayed. They also called a Soviet style “show trial” designed to overturn the 2016 election.
They GOP is actively campaigning against socialism while a number of Democrat stars are embracing it. The latest Pew data finds 55 percent of Americans have a negative view of socialism and 42 percent have a positive view.

Progressives, including Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, are embracing socialism including “public ownership” of systems particularly.
Mayor Buttigieg, seen as a more moderate voice running third in new Iowa polls, is the son of Joseph Buttigieg, who was an adviser to a journal called “Rethinking Marxism’’ known for “injecting Marxism into the wider culture.’’
Then there’s Bernie Sanders and AOC.
“The future, and our future, is in public systems, and it’s in publicly owned systems, because we need to take power over our lives again,” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democrat congressional superstar, told a massive Bernie Sanders rally October 19. “I don’t know about you, but I don’t want Mark Zuckerberg making decisions over my life.”
Democrats also propose other old Soviet favorites including restricting free speech as “hate speech.”
Turn on MSNBC or CNN and there’s Hillary Clinton accusing Democrat Tulsi Gabbard snd the Green Party’s Jill Stein of bring “Russian assets” and “Russian favorites.” Pundits on that channel refer to Russia as “the enemy” though peace was achieved 30 years ago. The interest in the old East vs. West conflict is clear — just in time for a new film to put the story into context.
