Sorry (Not Sorry) I Didn’t Invite You
An apology poem — Response to a prompt

I read Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles’ “Apology Poem” which is a response to Sheri Jacobs’ prompt — a take on Carlos William Carlos’ poem: This Is Just To Say.
I don’t usually write poetry. But Carlos’ poem and the responses to the prompt were so entertaining, I was inspired to attempt a couple of my own. So here goes:
1. Sorry I Didn’t Invite You
Sorry I went to lunch With your friend And didn’t invite you.
We talked — and talked — about books and movies. Fashion trends and relationships. Mentioned “basket weaving” in passing.
You would have been so bored You know how you don’t like basket weaving All that much.
2. Sorry I ate the chocolate
Sorry I ate the chocolate You’d stashed behind the Ranch dressing In the fridge.
It was sweet and caramel-y, Exploding with hazelnut flavor A true Rocher.
And extra delish Since it was the Very l-a-s-t piece.
This is the original prompt by Sheri Jacobs:
