Basic Emotion Series: Poetry Prompt
Sorrow
A Sadness Haiku
Sadness so deep no tears, grief, resentment, maybe yet, still, there is hope
“You came to me to learn the Pleasure of Life and the Pleasure of Art. Perhaps I am chosen to teach you something much more wonderful, the meaning of Sorrow and its beauty.”
― Oscar Wilde
Thank you, Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她), for the prompt: basic emotion — sadness. As I reflected on this prompt, the above quote from Oscar Wilde came to mind — The word that I rested on was — Sorrow. In this context, sorrow is a sadness that is tinged with beauty and joy. As in, we are sorrowful because we miss what was once, or could have been wonderful. It is remembering the joy but at the same time simultaneously being aware of its absence. As always, I am not entirely sure, I attempted this prompt it was intended, but this is what emerged — thank you for considering it for TBiN.
And Thank you all for reading!
