Songs of the Ocean
Odes to the ocean and ocean-life
A set of poems in response to Poetry Playground Writing Prompt #15. I happened to write these a few years ago but they feel relevant to the prompt. Thanks for reading!
Seagulls Swoop
Seagulls swoop over the salty ocean; waves break on the sandy beach with a roaring laughter; the tide bubbles ever-closer to our buried feet; the sun smiles down on us all, her children, with joy in each loving ray of light.
Azure Sky
Smelling the salt from the teal blue ocean Seeing the clouds disappear into the azure sky. Feeling the white sand slip from beneath my feet as the tide pulls back into the sea. Hearing the harmony of the summer breeze with the rolling waves on the beach. I taste this moment of freedom — here and now.
Wishing for the Ocean
On this fine day in mid-July, the yellow sun beams down massaging my shoulders with her warming fingertips applying gentle, steady pressure, a loosening embrace.
My toes in the loose, coarse sand wiggle and dance to the melody from the speaker; blue ocean waves crash down singing harmony to this song being composed as it is sung.
The fizz of a can being opened, cold and refreshing on my lips bubbles with joy as it meets the sea-bound air for the first time; joining together in brotherly accord.
Reclining, relaxing, enjoying the beauty of nothing-to-do, nowhere-to-go, I give in and allow the summer breeze to dictate my breath, sweeping life in and out of my lungs as I breathe the crisp ocean air.
