PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE
Somewhere Between Fall’s Heavy Rains and Low-Hanging Clouds, the Sun is Shining
Week 61 of the photographic documentary of my daily life
There hasn’t been much of a difference between summer and fall. It rained in summer. It rained as fall began. It was coldish in summer. It got even colder in fall. It was a smooth transitioning of the seasons.
But between all the heavy rains, low-hanging fog above the forest, and overcast days there have been some brighter moments. Those moments when the sun came through.
And that is what they call the “Golden October”.
Today I left my parents’ place again and drove back to my fairytale village. But before getting back in the car I captured these beautiful extended roots of the strawberries hanging down the balcony.
My parents have six flower boxes on their balcony. All filled with strawberries. Did I mention before they are not that much into flowers? But I must tell you, I surely never complained about it as a child. I loved picking my own fresh strawberries from outside my room. And I kind of still love it today. Whenever I go visit them.

Before I started working today I looked at the sky where two airliners had created this perfect cross with their condensation trails.

And this was a late sunrise shot on Saturday. The sun was already above the horizon but there was still some glow in the sky. Morning haze was covering the fields and low-hanging fog was to be seen above the forest.

A beautiful, juicy summer meadow. What else to say about it? Well, it’s fall by now. But that doesn’t take any beauty away from this angle.

During the summer I didn’t have much time to clean the flat thoroughly. But the advantage of a small flat is sure not needing so much time for it in general.
After a long season, I dedicated this morning to a “spring-cleaning” of our flat. In fall. I even cleaned the windows. We could barely see the beauty of our village through those dirty glasses anymore.
It was a grey in grey day and rained most of the time. But still, the view is better now.

It has been a while since we last had a “braai” (Afrikaans for barbeque, but don’t you ever call it a barbeque when in South Africa or Namibia). It has surely been too long. But summer wasn’t like what summers are supposed to be. And we had been rather busy barely spending two afternoons a week together.
But now it all had calmed down. The stress. And work. So now we have time. And we don’t care if the official grill season is over in Germany. We will make a braai when we feel like it. If the sun is shining or not.
And since the weather realized we couldn’t be stopped, the sun decided she might as well shine for us on this beautiful day in October.

Another day in this year’s fall. The morning was rather chilly. Then the wind picked up and I could hear it howling around the house for a few hours. Until it got quiet and all of a sudden it started to rain.
I snapped these leaves on my way out of town. In the rain.

This has been my week in photographs. 7 days. 7 photographs. Anyone can join. Once. Or weekly. It doesn’t matter. We welcome everyone! Dennett was the one starting this photography challenge sometime last year and many have participated ever since.
