Sometimes, Letting Go Is The Hardest Thing To Do
Because it’s easier said than done

We’ve all experienced situations where we had to let certain things go. It may have been a friendship, a job, a lifelong dream, a relationship, a sad past, feelings of guilt, resentment or even regret.
In other instances, it could have been painful feelings from the loss of a loved one, the choice to forgive someone who offended us, unresolved issues or even a decision to detach ourselves from some personal belongings.
Most times, we hold on to things, people and emotions because we are scared that if we lose them, we will be unhappy, lonely, empty, unfulfilled or simply won’t survive.
Sometimes, we may not even realize how strongly we are still holding on because we are doing it subconsciously.
Letting go is mostly a thing of the mind and controlling the thoughts in one’s emotional headspace isn’t as easy as most people think, especially when one needs to recover from a helpless situation.
The truth is, life happens to us differently and while some people can easily let go, others may not be able to do so with much ease.
We experience growth once we acknowledge that we are perfectly fine without some things.
If you are in a difficult situation, you should let go if:
- It is a serious threat to your mental health;
- It requires you to sacrifice your personal values and be who you are not;
- It makes you completely unhappy, depressed and dejected;
- It is highly toxic and will never bring about positive change.
Here’s why you should learn to let go
1. It’s an opportunity to experience what freedom truly is.
When we stop holding on to something that no longer serves its desired purpose, we will experience freedom like never before.
Whether it’s an unhealthy relationship, a grudge or a bitter experience, we should learn to expel whatever brings us unnecessary grief.
It’s no use living in chains when we can be free
“Letting go can be an act of great power.” — Lolly Daskal
2. It helps with personal growth.
Making a decision not to stay stuck in situations that make us seem helpless is a sign of emotional maturity. Do not hold on to situation that constantly cause you great disappointment or worry.
Picking healthy choices that work is a sign of self awareness and self confidence.
Once you are able to create space for the right thoughts and actions, it shows that you are intentional about your growth as a person.
“The more you let go, the faster you will move ahead.” — Alan Cohen
3. It is the perfect time to start afresh.
Change is the only constant thing in life and it is better embraced than avoided. As new things begin to happen, you will realize that you also need to make deliberate changes to keep up with the flow.
Once past events no longer align with your new values, it’s a sign that you are now in a differently progressive space.
“Letting go of a dream is hard, yet liberating. Sometimes, it’s just time to start living a different dream.” — Bart Knaggs
No matter what happens, life goes on and we have to keep living.
