Sometimes Doing Nothing is the Best Thing to Do
And precisely that’s what I did.

After a busy Wednesday, I decided to take it easy on Thursday.
My son and I went to Golden Corral for lunch. The good thing about a buffer restaurant is that you can linger around after eating, and they don’t care much.
So, we sat and played games and talked. Jaferaly is very competitive. He used to be on the chess team in middle school, and we have trophies all over the apartment. He is a much better player than I am, but that day was mine. You can tell by the way he is studying the board that he takes his game seriously.
It’s his move, and we didn’t have a time limit on making a move. He was so mad; he didn’t want to play another game. It’s not often that I can beat him.
So I dropped him off at home and went to see my brother, who lives on the other side of Houston, which means a 50 miles one-way trip.

Later that evening, I met up with my dear friend Gabriel Najera, a fellow Toastmaster and an International Motivational Speaker. He was born with no arms.
As we talked, he said, “I am confused. Are you on this trip because you trust God to take care of you, or are you challenging God to do so?”
Another eye-opening statement from a fellow Toastmaster.
As I think back and ponder.
The first time I heard Gabriel speak, I had tears in my eyes.
He talked about a time when, for the first time in his life, he asked: “Why me?”
The answer he got from God?
It was another tale of synchronicities. A young lady who was going to kill herself needed to meet him to know that a boyfriend abandoning her with a baby is not a reason enough to commit suicide.
Next time, when you feel frustrated and wonder if it’s all really worth it, you may never find out how, but know that yes, it’s worth it.
Stay blessed and be happy, my friends.
