Something’s Holding You Back, Here’s How To Eliminate It
“Thereby he is driven to entertain himself alone and acquire habits of self-help; and thus, like the wounded oyster, he mends his shell with pearl.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Christmas in Hawaii is weird.
People celebrate it, they put out decorations and play all the Christmas hits.
It doesn’t feel the same.
Right now it’s 75 degrees and sunny, with a cool breeze blowing through, I’ve been waiting for this weather all year.
It’s a perfect day for the beach and that’s where I am, watching the people go by. Single men and women, kids, families, all enjoying their day.
Aside from the occasional Santa hat or festive shirt, you wouldn’t know it’s Christmas.
Holidays in general are weird out here.
Thanksgiving and Christmas, arguably the two biggest holidays on the mainland, don’t have the same weight and reverence out here.
I spoke to my parents and grandma today, they gave me updates on the whole family.
Although I know the people they were talking about, their lives seem so far and distant from me.
I’ve been out here for over five years, I’ve only recently begun to miss home.
Everything out here is similar but different. I used to love that, but I’m starting to feel like I’m missing something.
I feel distant out here, removed from life.
When I first moved to Hawaii the plan was to continue traveling around the world, exploring new adventures in foreign lands.
Once I realized it’s not that easy to move to another country, I stayed here.
It’s been good for me, being away from the people and places I know made me grow up and learn things about myself.
But now I feel cut off.
I enjoyed my time out here and I’m grateful for the experience.
It’s now time to move, time for the next phase of my life.
Our flaws and shortcomings are valuable. They teach us lessons, and when confronted, help us grow.
Fear and worry about the lack and limitations in my life have kept me stuck.
By focusing on the things I don’t want I create that for myself.
The lack and limitation I experience are based on my thinking, I create the problem, then spend my time worrying about it.
When you think about it you realize how silly it is.
This happens all the time, being controlled by our thoughts without realizing it.
When we are honest with ourselves and work to remove our mental blocks, we open ourselves to bigger and better things.
By overcoming these barriers I am now ready to move to the next phase of my life.
New challenges and bigger opportunities await.
There is always more work to do, the job is never done.
So start today, by identifying and removing the barriers we put up, we begin our new lives.
