TBIN June Interview Questions

Or maybe you don’t want to.

But Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她)’s interviews are lovely, so I will still go through her questions.

Here was episode 1.

[1] As a writer, how do you come up with new ideas? How do you capture them so that they are ready when you sit down to write?

I have tons of ideas, but I’m not properly good at keeping up with them.

Reading, news, tv, chats with friends, sudden thoughts… they all contribute to stories.

I usually save a sentence/title that will remind me of the topic in a Medium draft.

I write daily, but I follow no structure nor have a schedule. I open the draft that inspires me the most and just go on with it.

Finishing a piece can take me days or months. Rarely hours.

I’m a chaotic thinker. I know it and I made my peace with it.

[2] On the spectrum of introvert — ambivert — extrovert, where would you place yourself? What are some reason(s) you think you might place in that position? Does it change depending on context?

I’m an extrovert. I grew up as somebody who is totally at ease in any situation and can adapt to most contests.

I can easily joke with strangers and I am confident about meeting new people.

Yet, I’m very selective with friendships and intimate ties. I don’t like to reveal much about my self and I definitely turn into a locked vault when it comes to flirting.

[3] What is your relationship with sound? Whether you interpret this word to encompass awkward silences in interactions to the connection found through music, take us on a journey on how you relate to the external world through this sense.

My grandpa turned deaf over the years. As a child, I found it strange how many times in a single day his voice tone changed. High. Low. Rusty. Smoky.

I love how sound relates to voices more than I love music. And I love music with all my heart.

Words come from either writing or speaking, so what’s not to love about that?

As a result, I always look at people’s mouths. That’s the first thing I notice in any person, be it a female or a male.

I want to see how their lips move when they are conveying their fears and waves of anger. If they click their tongues. If their cheekbones move to the left.

[4] How has your culture or context shaped your beliefs about relationships and what they “should” look like? How much do you subscribe to those expectations?

I’m not sure I can reply to this question quickly. I have at least 50 drafts on the matter. They will probably be ready by 2023.

To be fair, though, most of my beliefs about relationships are constructed out of 90s rom-com. It means that they do not come from my culture at all, but they’re Anglo-centric.

As for my culture, Italian women have impossible beauty standards.

It’s a hell of a burden when you walk into the dating world.

[5] What is one food that reminds you of childhood?

Anise grenadine.

What are your top 5 favorite fruits? / What are your top 5 least favorite vegetables?
