Sleeper Cell: Some of My Less Popular Articles from 2022
For one reason or another, they didn’t quite catch on…
Following along with the trend of doing a review of Medium articles over the past year, I’ve decided to revisit some of my sleepers. I understand that an article might not get much attention for a variety of reasons, from the timing of its release to an ambiguous title to poor tagging. Then there are the articles that maybe weren’t that good or interesting. Of course, I’ve gained more than half my readership in the last year, so it’s entirely possible you just weren’t around when the articles in question were published.
So, I’m presenting links to four of my articles from the year that had a less-than-stunning response but which I feel had value. A little annotation on each one might spark some interest, and then again it may not.

One of my most popular articles this year was Consciousness As A Field, an in-depth exploration of one model of consciousness. It grew out of an earlier article, Mind Your Models, which gave a quick overview of various models of mind and consciousness.
“The Problem With Experts” might sound like it’s going to be just grousing at specialists, but it’s really about how we tend to lose perspective as our knowledge of a field grows. See for yourself:
On Medium and elsewhere, I follow a number of folks who write or speak on the topic of psychedelics, but my own contributions have been minimal in this area (so far). I’ve always been fascinated by how some people use cannabis as a way to chill out, while others of us have a very different experience, and so I asked, Is Cannabis a Psychedelic?
There’s a long tradition of writing via a pseudonym, particularly in philosophical and spiritual genres. With tongue-in-cheek, I offered The Apocryphal Analects of Bu Tzu… but not just to be clever…
I hope you enjoy any of these articles that might catch your eye during this sleepy last week of 2022. If not, no worries — I’ll write some more sleepers in 2023. ;)
