Should We Eat More Plants?
We are what we eat: living and eating well
I came out of my dream, semi-lucid. I remember seeing a vision of a single leaf, and that plant was connected to my consciousness. I also recall thoughts that came to me, words like “We can be a part of plants.”
Yes, I love dreams but the best part is that waking up and learning from your dreams is the best part. Lately, I have been dreaming about heavy-duty things, thanks to my voracious reading of a few spiritual books on Amazon kindle.
Another thought came to me about plants and it focused on the statement, “We are what we eat.” My vegan friend, Erica, is constantly on me about the need to eat more vegetables and stay off meats. She is right, and it is hard to come off a habit that started in childhood. At an early age, I wanted to stay off meat but my mom insisted on serving me with meat at almost every meal.
Now that I am an adult, I am free to choose my own meal plans.
It’s a no-brainer to realize that eating more greens is better for your health. There is research that points out that eating vegetables have many health benefits, such as reducing inflammation, improving blood pressure, improving the skin, and fighting macular degeneration, among other benefits.
Certainly, a plant-based diet is good for the planet, and it will reduce greenhouse gases, caused by livestock production.
But my question is more about the human mind and man’s history of aggression, with respect to wars and imperialism.
Can a plant-based diet lead to a more peace-loving community? Will a plant-based diet make one more like plants: peaceful, loving, and kind?
To answer this question, all one needs to do is look at some of the world’s most famous people who had a plant-based diet.
- Mahatma Gandi
- Franz Kafka
- Mary Shelley
- John Harvey Kellogg
- Leo Tolstoy
Certainly, one of the most famous environmentalists is the young and wise, Greta Thunberg, who is vegan. Some day, I would like to meet this smart, savvy woman who is not afraid to challenge the status quo and nag world leaders to do more for the environment.
In my case, it took a short dream about a leaf to remind me that the way to world peace, health, and a more loving community may be by choosing to switch more to a plant-based diet.
That’s all I have for you today.
