She Lives with Joy and is a Friend to So Many

Celebrating Dr. Preeti Singh, our Medium friend

Photo by Clay Banks on Unsplash

There are so many terrific writers here on Medium that I want to write about and showcase in The Writers Haven.

I’d written about Jan Sebastian first, just because…well…Jan. If you know Jan, you know how enthusiastic she is and what a huge help she is for others here. I made a list of other authors that I admire here that I wanted to write about. There were over 60 of them! So, I decided to do it the fair way and write all the names on a slip of paper, put them in a bowl, and start pulling them out one at a time.

Before I got my slips all written out, I saw in a story that Dr. Preeti Singh, another author here with lots of friends, is celebrating her 3rd anniversary on September 15th. So, to help her celebrate her 3rd anniversary here, — or birthday as I call it –she jumped to the top of the list.

Everyone else is in the bowl and I’ll work my way through it!

With close to 5,000 followers, Dr. Preeti is someone with lots of friends, both here on Medium and in ‘real life’ too. She’s made so many friends because of who she is. She’s enthusiastic, always positive, and encouraging of others. She reads so many stories, leaving her insightful comments as a trail behind her.

I don’t remember exactly when our paths crossed here. I’ve only been on Medium just over a year. As the new year rolled around, we were friends, but I don’t think we’d interacted with one another much. But then I published a story about the word I’d chosen for my Word of the Year — JOY. And Dr. Preeti had chosen the same word for her Word of the Year!

Finding this common ground led to a whole new type of Medium friendship with her. The more I read of her stories, the more I come to admire this authentic, joyful, and compassionate woman. She has so much to share, and she spreads so much of her sunshine around her physical world, and here in Mediumville.

About a month ago, another fabulous Medium writer with so many friends, Natalie, was in my neck of the woods for a visit. We were able to set up a lunch date to meet in person. What a delightful afternoon that was! During our long, extended lunch we talked about so much, and got to know each other better. But of course, with us meeting each other via Medium, Medium filled much of our conversation.

Natalie and I talked about some of the other awesome writers here that we’d love to be able to meet up in person. Names were flying around the table in a flurry. Many were common friends between us, some were new names that only one of us knew. So, so many people we’d love to meet ‘in real life’. Oh, the many places we’d be traveling to meet these delightful people that we’ve come to know through our interactions here in this grand community.

I said, “Dr. Preeti is another one I’d love to meet one day. But as I’ve never even made it out of the US, I know that I won’t be traveling to India any time soon.”

“Ahhh,” Natalie replied, “but doesn’t she sometimes come to the States?”

So, Dr. Preeti, be forewarned….if you have any travel planned for the United States, you may have a welcoming committee meet you at the airport.

This is what Dr. Preeti wrote about how she feels about the other writers here on Medium.

Appreciation for writers. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Writers may be new or experienced, they need an audience. They spend hours researching a topic or looking for a new topic. They want to write for an audience. They work hard. They have challenges. They face writer’s block. They cope with the fact that their mind goes blank when they begin to write.

Sometimes it takes several hours to write as there may be distractions at home.

A writer very often suffers from health issues with fingers hurting, shoulder freeze or pain or headache, and eye strain.

When the writer sits and writes, he feels he worked hard. He must get a reward of just a token of appreciation. This is the work of claps.

I give full 50 claps to a writer who writes with his heart.

You can read her full story here.

Many of her stories here talk about the special friends she has, some in her everyday life, and some that she meets for special occasions. This is a woman who is such a wonderful friend to so many, that I know she will always have a large gathering of friends in her circle. Here is one of her stories about friendship.

Dr. Preeti exudes so many positive qualities. She exemplifies love in action. Here is a story she wrote about her thoughts on love.

But she’s not always hearts and emotions only. Dr. Preeti is a very intelligent woman also and has done much in life with her knowledge.

Dr. Preeti Singh is an academician by profession and a blogger on Medium by choice. She has also worked in a corporate organization and has been an entrepreneur.

She’s an editor at Illumination and Dancing Elephants Press, and she also shares some of her Medium advice with us, like in this article.

If you don’t know Dr. Preeti through your interactions with her here, this is a story she wrote talking about who she was, to celebrate her second Medium anniversary last year. She shares so much of herself in this story, and also with her many comments on our stories.

To help this beautiful soul celebrate her third anniversary here this week, if you’re not friends with her, give her a follow and say hello. And go check out one of her stories to give her a boost of reads this week to say ….

HAPPY MEDIUM ANIVERSARY, DEAR FRIEND!
