Sensing Gratitude
Poetry Prompt: Gratitude and presence

grateful for softly scented moisturizer that makes my hands soft my sturdy desk lamp to illuminate all my nighttime reading the coffee mug I use to hold all 300 of my lost hair ties in one place my table tangerine for nourishing me my journal, for being a place of refuge for my thoughts, all sights within my current realm.
grateful for my versatile gray cardigan keeping me warm my chair for supporting me and not giving me back pain my body for healing the scars my nervous system for alerting me to danger all feelings and textures that have graced me.
grateful for a peaceful quiet of living alone the soft bubbling of a meal in preparation the soft typing noises that accompany writing all sounds that gentle soothe my senses.
grateful for the faint smell of garlic for adding spark to my dishes the lingering smell of coffee accenting the morning the smells of invigoration in my life.
grateful for the soft touch of chocolate, sweet treat, a snack, the flavors of Sunday self-care.
Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) wants to thank Galit Birk, PhD for this amazing prompt of gratitude and presence in Being Known! I modelled it after the famous 5–4–3–2–1 grounding technique that really helps me to focus on my surroundings and be present in the moment, particularly when I’m anxious. I took it a step further with the encouragement of this prompt, to thank these pieces of my environment for being a part of improving my day. :)
Tagging: Michael Burg, MD | Kim McKinney | Jade-Ceres Violet D. Munoz | Giulia | Jenine Bsharah Baines if you’re up to it and anyone else interested in this!
