Semen Retention Foundational Practice (3) — Beginner, Intermediate, & Advanced Techniques

I am nearly 50 and reaping the semen retention benefits more now than in my earlier 30s because I have mastered the techniques.
I thought of myself as a sex master in my 30s, but I was a premature ejaculating dud.
More interested in exhibiting my sexual performance like an actor on the stage than connecting with my partner and redirecting the sexual energy towards my life purpose.
Over time, I unlocked the four pillars of a life-changing semen retention practice. One of those pillars is to learn and implement non-ejaculation techniques.
In this article, I’ll give a quick overview of Semen retention before diving into the basic, intermediate, and advanced techniques to practice Semen Retention.

What Is Semen Retention?
Semen retention is abstaining from ejaculating through sex or masturbation. Typically practiced over an extended period of time — years and even decades.
Semen retention or non-ejaculation has been a practice rooted in spiritual and religious contexts. However, given the vast benefits, it has only recently gained popularity.
“Forty meals make a drop of blood, 40 drops of blood make a drop of bone marrow, 40 drops of bone marrow make a drop of semen, the elixir of life.”

The theory behind semen retention is by refraining from ejaculation, men conserve energy, boost their testosterone levels, improve their connection with their partner, reverse sexual dysfunction such as premature ejaculation, increase confidence, ditch pornography, and increase in sexual pleasure.
P.S. I’ll henceforth interchangeably use the acronym SR to refer to Semen Retention.
While the research is still inconclusive, hundreds of anecdotes strongly support SR.
In my own experience of 2+ decades, I’ve reaped massive benefits from Semen retention — the freedom from the shackles of p*rn is probably the biggest.

Action is at the heart of all religions, philosophies, management, and personal development concepts and theories.
Techniques guide actions.
If you don’t act, you don’t get the benefits. The benefits will manifest in your life if you carry out the actions.
The same is with semen retention. You must do the techniques to unlock the benefits.
I have grouped the techniques into the following categories: beginners, intermediate and advanced.
Where to Start — Beginner Techniques
The following techniques are to be used when you first start on your semen retention journey.
Beginner techniques are important if you are about to commence your first 30-day challenge or have been practicing for only a few months.
The beginner practices are the building blocks for the more advanced techniques.
If you commit for several years, some of these techniques will drop off over time.
Others I still practice diligently every few days.
Go Slow
This it’s a must-do for beginner and advanced practitioners alike when commencing any sexual experience.
Either when going solo or with your partner.
For the first 10 minutes of any sexual activity, go slowly.
Please don’t mistake the effectiveness of this technique due to its simplicity.
If you can contain and pace yourself in the first 10 minutes, you are well on your way to being a semen retention master.
This is so powerful because there is a massive spike in your sexual arousal at the commencement of any sexual activity — masturbation or sex.
When you first get aroused, the sexual animalistic nature takes over your body and mind with the power of a steam train. The sexual energy is pumping through your body, the mind is racing with sexualized thoughts, and the associated chemicals are coursing through your veins.
The result is all you want to do is ejaculate and immediately.
By changing down your gears and going slowly, your arousal level drops. Your body will self-regulate to come into a sexual equilibrium that supports a connection with your body and partner.
Over the years, my period has reduced from 10 to 5 minutes. It will be different for each person, but start with 10 minutes until you master your sexual energy.
The following techniques will assist with maneuvering through the critical first 10 minutes stage to allow for sexual freedom and being able to retain your semen.
The Pause
The friction created during sex on your penis brings on sexual arousal. Leading to ejaculation. When you stop the movement of penetration, your sexual energy drops.
With this technique, stop having sex or masturbating.
When your sexual arousal level has dropped sufficiently, you can continue.
The Withdrawal
When your penis is inside your partner, stop having sex and withdraw your penis from inside her.
It’s important to note that if you stay inside her, you must communicate with her to stop moving.
A complete withdrawal of your penis is more lightly to decrease your sexual arousal level than pausing.
However, there is a chance of losing a connection with your partner. The likelihood of this happening can be decreased if you have previously discussed with your partner that you would use this technique.
Also, if you withdraw, you can kiss, touch, finger, and lick her vagina to keep the connection and keep her in the mood.
Beginner SR Breathing Practices
The following are 3 breath techniques.
1. The Suspension of Breath
The first technique that saved me many times from embarrassing premature ejaculation was very simple. I was holding my breath.
I would be inside her, and after 2 ½ minutes, I would feel myself getting to the point of no return (PNR), and I would hold my breath.
The suspension of breath allows your sexual arousal level to drop immediately and quickly. And you don’t have to stop having sex when you do it.
There are 2 options for this technique:
- Exhalation — Fully exhale all breath in your lungs and hold.
- Inhalation — fully inhale and hold.
Fully exhalation is the most effective of the 2, but try them out yourself. Option 1 is an experience of the body feeling more contained, which lowers your sexual energy level.
The length of time you suspend the breath is based on the lowering of your sexual energy level, not based on a stopwatch.
If your partner has an alarmed look on her face when she is looking at you, take that as an indication you have taken this technique too far. A beetroot face isn’t sexy.
2. Deep Belly Breathing
When you are aroused, your breath can become shallower. You can direct your breath to the longer part of your lungs to deepen the breath.
Instead, direct your breath to your abdomen.
1. Sit in a chair with your back straight and feet flat on the floor.
2. Place a hand on your navel.
3. Inhale through your nose and direct the breath below the navel. You will feel your hand move forward as your abdomen expands.
4. Exhale through your nose. As the abdomen contracts, your hand moves towards your spine.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 ten to twenty times.
Other breathing techniques include centenary breaths along with various pranayama practices (Yogic breathing exercises.)
3. Microcosmic Orbit
Out of the myriad of techniques, this is my favorite. I would have used this 1,000s times over the years. I still use this technique nearly daily.
This Taoist technique is called the Microcosmic Orbit.
The biggest impediment to sexual frustration, blue balls, and premature ejaculation is the accumulation of sexual energy around the groin.
The Microcosmic Orbit will move your sexual energy from around the groin and circulate it throughout your body.
- Press the tip of your tongue to the plate directly above the teeth (hold this gently throughout the whole practice.)
- Take your attention to the base of your spine.
- As you breathe in slowly and smoothly, imagine drawing your sexual energy up your spine to the crown of your head.
- On the exhalation, imagine the sexual energy descending from the crown of your head, down the forehead, through the tip of the tongue, down along the front of the body, to the stomach. Stop at the stomach.
- Then, inhale and repeat.
The Microcosmic Orbit can be practiced during sex while masturbating or when you feel your sexual energy igniting during the day or night.
This powerful practice needs to be mastered by all semen retention practitioners.
Where to Next — Intermediate Techniques
The Yogis of India have contributed a lot to the fundamentals of practicing semen retention.
A physical aspect of the yoga practice is the bandhas. Bandhas are generally described as physical movements that cause a lock in the physical body. Internally a seal is formed. The seal allows for the flow of Prana.
The seal then allows energy to flow out of the pelvic area, Preventing a build-up of energy.
The Uddiyana Bandha
The crowning practice that stands above all is the Uddhiyana Bandha.
- Stand with the feet shoulder-width apart.
- Bend forward and hands on the bottom of your thighs, immediately above your knees. You are hunched over.
- Expel all the air in your lungs.
- Draw the navel to the spine.
- Hold your breath.
- To release, release the naval grip and slowly inhale.
- Repeat steps 3 to 6.
Allow your tongue to touch the top of the palate directly behind your teeth for extra support.
The Cool Draw
The Cool Draw draws the sexual energy out of your testicles and circulates through your body before you get aroused.
Circulating the sexual energy away from your groin can assist with premature ejaculation. Premature ejaculation occurs due to a quick build of sexual energy around the groin.
This technique promotes whole-body orgasms.
- Rub and cup your testicles.
- Breathing in pulls up on the scrotum. Contract the anus muscles and perineum. Think of the sexual energy moving from this area to your tailbone.
- Breathe out and relax the contracted muscles. But keep the attention on the sexual around the base of the spine.
- Inhale and contract the same muscles again, repeat moving the sexual energy from the testicles to the base of the spine.
- The next inhalation draws the sexual energy up from the spine's base to the head's crown.
- Take the tip of the touch to touch the palette immediately above the teeth and imagine the sexual energy coming down the front of the body to rest at the belly.
The Big Draw
The Big Draw stops the ejaculatory spasm.
You squeeze the PC muscles, especially around the sperm ducts, and ‘pump’ (i.e., a continuous squeeze and contracting) the large buttocks muscles. Engaging these larger muscles in this area draws the blood away from your groin.
- In a standing position, pleasure yourself (masturbate) until you have a full erection.
- Stop and rest to ensure you have full control over your sexual energy. Contract your PC muscles firmly around your prostrate and grip your toes on the floor.
- Inhale and draw your sexual energy from the perineum towards the anus and spine by squeezing the buttock muscles.
- In a pumping action, engage in this process. With each pumping motion, take a short inhalation. Rock your spine back and forth as if you were riding a horse.
- As you learned in the Cool Draw, move the energy from the tailbone up the spine.
- Tuck your chin into the throat when the energy reaches the top of the skull.
- Look up as if looking at the top of your head.
- When you have pumped the sexual energy up to the head. You have done the Big Draw. Success is measured by your arousal level lowering and less tension in your erection.
- Repeat steps 3 through 7 ten more times.
- With the energy in your head, visualize the sexual energy spiraling around. One way, then reverse the direction.
- Rest, then draw the energy down to your belly. Remember to touch the tongue to the top of the pallet immediately behind the teeth.
Make Me a Tantric Master — Advanced Practices
I use the following practice multiple times every day. The most subtle practices are always the most powerful, which is the case with the following practice.
The reason for these being the most subtle is that we do them at the level of thought.
While these 2 practices will affect the physical and emotional bodies, they are carried out at the level of thought and awareness.
Interrupt Your Thought Flow
This technique starts with the intention I will think about something different from sexualized thoughts.
When a sexualized thought comes up, acknowledge it and then immediately think of something other than sex.
By allowing the mind to experience one sexual thought after another, you generate sexual energy.
Your sexual energy will immediately drop when you interrupt the thought flow. This technique cuts off the sexual energy starting to build.
Directed Relaxation
Beware of the sexual energy around the groin, especially between your legs. Holding your focus on this area, tell yourself to relax. Relax your anus and perineum. Immediately, you will feel your sexual energy release from this area.
Direct relaxation releases built-up sexual energy.
Awareness of what is happening inside yourself is the key to determining which technique to use.
But you do need to be aware of your sexual energy level so you know when to use it.
Concluding Thoughts
Whether you are considering starting a semen retention practice or are a battle-scarred warrior on the path to embodying your masculine energy, semen retention techniques are powerful tools to have as part of your armory.
Semen retention can be practiced in various ways. Choose those practices that best suit your development, personal preferences, and goals.
With the techniques grouped in order of difficulty, once you have achieved some level of competency, practice the more advanced methods.
Remember that the more advanced techniques will require more time and effort to master. But the benefits will be far greater.
