Seeking Savory Food

Six Word Photo Story: “December Freestyle”

Happiness in a dish of C.K.T.

I’ve written about growing up in the midwest USA and being a Meat-and-Potatoes-Girl. I learned to love spicy food and a wider variety of food styles when I became a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malaysia. (See link below)

We are currently staying in Saint Petersburg, Fl, so we are exploring the restaurants and, as always, searching for savory Asian food. We are happiest when we find food tasting close to what we know from Singapore and Malaysia. Last night we returned to the Hawkers restaurant for one of our favorite dishes.

On Hawker’s menu, the title is “C.K.T.” but we know that stands for Char Kway Teow. When we return to Singapore or Malaysia, this is usually the first dish that we order. Char Kway Teow includes wok-fried shrimp, chicken, Lap Cheong (a Chinese sausage), egg, and veggies served with wide rice noodles in soy and pork sauce.

Delicious. We will definitely return again soon for more C.K.T.!
