Secrets of Life: No More Pain
Life-changing lessons and short stories by Krishna V Chaudhary
Today, in the era of the 21st century, we all have different paces in our lives. Most of us are in the big rat race for success. But often we forget that failure also needs acceptance. We all have someday, or others have faced failure in our lives. But have we accepted it with grace? Many people who surrendered in front of failure gave up their lives.
Who doesn’t want a happy and peaceful life! But sorrow is sometimes bound to happen. But what matters the most is our way of tackling the sadness and being jovial all again.
The pain, the sorrow, and all of the darkness of one’s life can be taken away. All one needs is to have patience. According to me, there are four main criteria that I call as ‘secrets of life’; they are:
- Happiness
- Compassion
- Gratitude
- Love
Here are some motivating and inspirational short stories which will help you in revealing the secrets of a happy life.
1. Happiness
Story of a monk that inspired many.
Once upon a time, there was a monk. The monk had many followers and was adored by one and all. The one thing about him that would surprise all was that he never got sad. His entire life, he used to stay happy, smiling and making others smile.
This was one of the core reasons that he was very popular among people near him. His followers would fascinate seeing him happy for years. They would often ask him out of curiosity that if he ever had experienced any sorrow ever in his life. To this, he would always smile and answer “no, I haven’t!”
When the time of his death approached, he called all of his followers and informed them that he will be dying in the next three days.
He also gave them a message about happiness. He said — If a person is happy all his life and has spread happiness in people around him. Then the life that person has lived is no less than a celebration. And the death of such a person should not be mourned.
“And all I want from all of you is a promise that no one of you will cry on my deäth”, said the monk to all. And there will be no mourning in my hut. My death should be celebrated.
People were very sad. The most amazing person near them whom they adored a lot was about to die. The people who loved him gathered three days in advance. By the time he died, he was laughing and talking about love and happiness.
Before his death in the morning, he sang a song and after singing the song, he said, “Remember my words that, my clothes should not take off, do not give me a shower. Burn me with my clothes on.”
Then he was placed on the pyre with clothes that he was wearing. People were sad to see him with a cloth on the pyre.
As his pyre was set to fire, the firecrackers started cracking. He had purposely placed firecrackers in his clothes. The people gathered smiled and laughed. The monk is still in the memories of people. The person who made us laugh throughout his life, made people laugh at his death too.
2. Compassion
An incident of Buddha about true compassion
Once, Buddha went for a walk with one of his pupils. Suddenly, there came a person and to their surprise, he spat on Buddha. Buddha stayed quiet and wiped the sputum. Then he said to the person “Do you want to say something else?”
The student, who was standing and watching all this said “What are you saying, Guruji (master)?” “Just give me the order and treat this person exactly the way he has to be treated. Nobody can dare to do such a thing with you.”
Buddha then said this person wanted to say something to me. He didn’t have words and went without saying. All he did is, express his words through his actions. I feel pity for him as he was unable to tell me something. I am filled with compassion for him now.
When anyone comes to me and holds my hands and place their hands on mine, I get warm-hearted for them. When anyone hugs you, they want to convey more than they want to say. Likewise, when he spat on me, he wanted to tell me something but he couldn’t gather words in his mouth.
The next day the same person came to Buddha and lay down at his feet pleading for forgiveness. Buddha then said see how weak the power of his language is. Yesterday he wanted to say something, but couldn’t and today he wants to say, but still, out of guilt, he is unable to say anything to me.
- If you think about the people near you, people who are living in your neighborhood, and all those who are connected with you. You will be filled with compassion for one and all.
- No one knows what will happen the next minute. Who knows whether we will see the next sunrise or not. Who knows whether we will able to see the beautiful faces around us by the next evening.
- Try going to a garden once. You will see a lot of blooming and blossoming flowers. Those flowers will wither away till the evening. They have a very small life.
- You must always remember that it is the people living near us and surrounding us who make our lives beautiful. They give our lives new meaning. In today’s world, there is so much pain, cryings, and sorrows out there. Try to live still and somehow love and spread love amongst the creations of God.
- If you have not filled with empathy in this life, then you haven’t lived this life. We haven’t understood the meaning of life. If you want to know more about life, be empathetic towards everyone. If someone is sad or upset, don’t be a reason to increase their sadness. Respect everyone and spread love among all. This is the key secret to happy living. Remember one thing that hurts another, ultimately, achieves misery. The center of happiness is born in the person who tries to give happiness. Compassion does not come from outside.
It is important to develop a sense of compassion for everyone.
3. Gratitude
Short story of Jesus Christ on being thankful
When Christ was being hanged on the cross, he said “Oh God! Forgive them.” And do forgive them for two reasons. First, they don’t know what they are doing. And second, they have reduced the distance between my Lord and me. Thus, I am thankful to all of you. In all that pain, he still had gratitude to the people near him.
Have you ever thought of rock climbing or going up on the hills? The one who has to climb the mountain has to leave all of the excess burdens down. Only then we can achieve our target and reach the destined heights.
One of the greatest burdens in everybody’s life is sadness and unhappiness. There is no greater load than this. Hence, you should always try and cut down the excess load of sorrow from life. Always be thankful to everyone around you. Be kind and generous to the people. I have seen that people often keep grudges with other people. You must know that this will never do any good to them.
Gratitude is a very divisive thing. But in this era, it is lost somewhere. People, see their own benefit first and work likewise. Kindness is lost. The attitude and perspectives of people have changed.
We all know that we breathe air to live. But it is not us who is taking it all by ourselves. It is the air that has oxygen in it. What if there will be no air around us? We will suffocate.
Our body is one of the greatest miracles on earth. Even if we set up very large laboratories, and put thousands of experts and scientists, it is very difficult to make blood out of bread (food). This body of ours is doing miracles round the clock. You must be thankful for the body we have. Don’t hate your body if you find yourself if anyone teases you or body shames you.
You know our body is a combination of five great elements.
Prithvi — earth Akash — — sky Vayu — — air Agni — — fire Jal — — — water
4. Love
A story depicting what love is all about
One of the brutal deaths in the history of mankind is the death of Mansour Hallaj. Mansour al-Hallaj was a Persian born in 858 CE in Iran. He is still celebrated for his sacrifice towards the worship lord.
The king of that time had given orders of his death. His legs were amputated, and his eyes were brutally plucked out. People who were gathered near him threw stones at him. When his legs were amputated, he washed his hands with the blood that came out. In Muslims, the wazoo is offered before the namaz. When people asked him about what he was doing with his blood, Mansoor said that the real wazoo of love is done with blood and not with water. I am happy that I am doing wazoo with my blood. And who does wazoo with his blood enters the Namaaz.
Then he started chanting Ana’l Haqq! Ana’l Haqq! People went to him and said in anger “Stop chanting, or else we will cut off your arms.” Mansoor raised his arm to pray and they cut off his one arm. He raised the other arm forward, they cut off that as well. People were very surprised, first, his legs were cut, then his hands were cut, and then the eye was all destroyed and he was still chanting the name of God. Mansoor said to God, “Hey God! remember that I had won.” Then people asked what is the matter in which matter you had won.
I am telling God that I was afraid of love. I was afraid that love wouldn’t sustain in such enmity. What you wanted couldn’t achieve. You aren’t able to destroy the love prevailing on me. You all couldn’t destroy the God in me. He was laughing at that time. With the smile on his face, he again started chanting Ana’l Haqq
Then, they again asked him to stop chanting Ana’l Haqq. “Or else we would decapitate you.” Mansour, again, said, “Ana’l Haqq. Ana’l Haqq. Ana’l Haqq.” They decapitated him.
The ritual in Muslims is to bury the dead person’s body, but for Mansour, they said, “He is a Kafir. Kafirs are burned and not buried. So, burn him.”
They burned his body and his ashes, then flowed into the river. It is said that even his ashes were chanting Ana’l Haqq.
He was smiling while facing his death.
Sadness is a habit that you have created, by yourself. The circumference of sadness is sometimes so concrete that people often fail to break it and come out of it. Happiness is a habit that you have to make. It is important for all to start seeing the bright side of life. There always a day after each night. Our life develops in the way you make it grow. So, every time when you find yourself in hard situations in life, always remember calmness and positivity is the only way to love your life.
