Screw the Noise
Nonsense or bullsh*t that someone is talking
Monday’s Prompt: How can I cut through the noise and get to what’s important?
If I were to explain noise, I would define it as unnecessary disruptive sounds that can cause chaos in our lives. It is defined more formally by Merriam-Webster as:
an unwanted signal or a disturbance (such as static or a variation of voltage) in an electronic device or instrument (such as radio or television)
electromagnetic radiation (such as light or radio waves) that is composed of several frequencies and that involves random changes in frequency or amplitude
irrelevant or meaningless data or output occurring along with desired information
The real meaning that I would like to embrace comes from the trusty Urban Dictionary:
nonsense or bullsh*t that someone is talking
Lately, I have been hearing noise from some family members. The noise is coming from a place of love and concern for my well-being. They have been concerned about my lack of enthusiasm to want to return to Corporate America. I have no desire to return to a world where I constantly felt stifled.
Instead, I would rather write because it is what nourishes my heart and soul. Speaking of soul, I just watched the Disney movie Soul, and it resonated with me so much that it gave me a much needed confidence boost.
At one point in the movie, 22, a soul who could not find her purpose or her spark, was faced with an enormous amount of noise. The noise was telling her that she was not worthy, not good enough, and that she had no purpose. Feel free to watch the first few seconds of the scene below:
It seems like we are constantly being tested by outside noises, but it’s up to us to silence all that shit and focus on our goals. I will not allow the noise from my family members to discourage me or take my eyes off the finish line. Because one way or another, I will get to it one day. And that will be the measure of my success, no matter what they have to say.
to hell with the noise
I’ll follow my heart’s desires
this is my success
How can I cut through the noise and get to what’s important?
Positive affirmations — creating a daily routine that positively affirms my goals
Meditation and visualization —visualizing and focusing my energy on the the end results. This is where my inner child and my imagination helps me out — Keep dreaming MJ.
Gratitude — expressing gratitude and celebrating the small wins
Determination and Hard Work — by working hard at my craft every single day
Believing in Myself — by not giving up on my dreams and not giving up on myself. I have to believe in me even when nobody else does
Focus and Redirect Energy — I am no longer investing my time and energy into anything that does not serve me.
Watching Soulmade me realize to never take my eyes off the prize. Today, I was able to complete a couple of goals that I had placed on hold. I was discouraged by outside as well as inside noises, they both can be so crippling. Once you start completing your goals that momentum will keep on flowing. So, I will continue riding this wave until I get to my final destination.
Screw the noise and never give up on yourself.
