Writing Prompts: Saving Time

This week, make some time to write about time 🌀

It can be hard to prioritize writing. There’s always something more urgent vying for your attention. Yes, I’m looking at you, giant pile of laundry waiting to be put away. But as I’m always telling myself, the chores and life admin stuff gets done eventually — the writing, you have to really work to make time for.

Here are two things that might help you make time to write this month:

  1. Many people focus on writing a draft of a novel in November as part of National Novel Writing Month, and there is a whole community of these November novelists here on Medium.
  2. On November 9, Creators Hub will be hosting a writing hour on Zoom. Bring a draft, an outline, an idea, or just the urge to write; we’ll provide a few prompts to help you get going, but mostly this is meant to be a nudge for you to set aside the time to write, and commiserate with other writers. Register here (it’s free!).

Oh, and there’s a third thing that might help —prompts!

You know the drill: Publish your response (poetry, prose, whatever) on Medium and tag it #Writehere so we can all find each others’ work on the Write Here topic page.

THIS WEEK’S PROMPTS

Holidaze

What’s your favorite holiday? OR: What’s your least favorite holiday? Write a tribute — or a rant — to the day of the year that drives you wild every time.

Sunday Scaries

There is always something fraught about Sunday nights. Maybe Sunday night finds you dreading the workweek ahead, or full of excited anticipation for it. Maybe by Sunday night you’re exhausted from your weekend, which was full of childcare or socializing or chores. Maybe you have a Sunday night routine you cherish. Maybe you hate Sunday nights with a fiery rage. Tell us alllll about it — or set a fictional scene on a Sunday night.

Time Bandits

If you could go back in time to relive any one day from your past, what would it be? Do you just want to visit it, like a tourist observing? Or would you do something differently? No, it won’t break the space-time continuum, don’t worry — let your imagination run free.
