Sacrifices for the Family
Tom and Melissa have to make do in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
“We survived the apocalypse!” Tom said, immediately falling silent.
Behind him, Melissa crawled out of their dugout, caressing her enormous belly and breathing heavily.
“A hand, maybe?”
Her gaze wandered from his face, wet with tears, to the rotten buildings and dead vegetation.
“What a world our babies will be born into. Without food, how will you even survive until they are born?”
“We survived so far,” Melissa said, “because we were willing to make sacrifices.”
“Yes. I love ….”
Tom was cut short when a shovel crushed into his face.
“Don’t worry, babies. Daddy bought us a few more weeks.”
