Summary

The website content introduces "A Drabble a Day 4: Rise of the Drabble," a weekly writing challenge that encourages contributors to create 100-word stories based on a daily random word, with the aim of fostering a community of writers and readers.

Abstract

"A Drabble a Day 4: Rise of the Drabble" is an ongoing writing project that provides a new word prompt each day for a week, challenging writers to craft a 100-word drabble—a concise form of storytelling—around that word. The initiative is led by Grim Flandango, who also participates and reads submissions from other contributors. The project is hosted on Medium and has a dedicated following, with contributors tagging Grim Flandango in their stories to ensure inclusion in the weekly roundup. The words for the week of 1/22–1/28 are listed, and participants are encouraged to adhere to the submission guidelines of The Fiction Writer’s Den if they wish to contribute. The project aims to engage writers and readers alike, with a call to action for procrastinators to start writing. Grim Flandango also invites feedback and support through claps, comments, follows, and even buying a coffee for the author.

  • The project is open to anyone interested in participating, with clear rules provided for those who want to join.
  • There is an appreciation for the engagement and interaction from the readers, as evidenced by the invitation for feedback and the option to subscribe for more content.

A pale fog fills the shadowy graveyard. The creatures of the night sing their songs of heartache and despair. The moon appears through the clouds, casting an unearthly light upon everything.

Oh, hello, kiddies. Are you prepared for another spoooky week of random words turned into even more random stories? Will there be vampires, or werewolves, or random zombies having existential crises? Who can tell? Not me, that’s for sure.

Thank you again everyone who is both contributing and reading these tales. I’m having a great time writing mine and reading yours.

Shoutout to my contributors: JF Danskin, Eva MacInnes, Jay C Wells, AmyLee, Writer || Fiction, Personal Essays, Poetry, Erosia Potter, Nerdishwrites, Rena Aliston, H.R. Parker, The World of Clara Morgenstein.

Quick Reminder: If you want to be on the list, make sure to tag me Grim Flandango.

Check out the stories from last week. You won’t be disappointed!

Did you have a favorite story this week? Let me know in the comments below.

Same thing here, if I didn’t add your story to my list, just reach out. I want everyone to see what you’ve done!

For those who want to take part — here are the rules:

  1. Every day there is a word. I use a random word generator for that word.
  2. I then write a drabble that, in some way, features the word. (Because it’s a drabble, I keep it to 100 words exactly for the challenge).
  3. Those 100 words don’t include whatever introduction you might have, or promotional blurb. It only includes the story itself.
  4. Obviously, the only other rule is that you stick to the submission guidelines for the publication you are submitting to. I am submitting to The Fiction Writer’s Den, so I keep to their rules.
  5. When you do publish, make sure to tag me. I really want to read what you’ve done.

And now, the whole reason you slog through all my crap- The Words!
