Summary

Russia's RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, known as "Satan 2," is reportedly capable of wiping out the UK in seconds and reaching the US within 14 minutes.

Abstract

The RS-28 Sarmat, a 20-tonne nuclear missile dubbed "Satan 2," is highlighted by Russian media for its potential to obliterate the UK swiftly and reach several European capitals and the US in a matter of minutes. This missile, capable of carrying 15 nuclear warheads, is described as a significant strategic asset for Russia, intended to deter external threats and provoke reflection among those who threaten the nation. Despite its destructive capabilities, which include the ability to target multiple cities with a single missile, the world has not witnessed a nuclear attack amid decades of mutual deterrence between Russia and Western nations.

A Russian television host has explained how a massive nuclear missile called “Satan 2” could wipe out the UK in seconds. The RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, weighing 20 tonnes, has a 11,000 mile range, travels at 16,000mph and can carry 15 nuclear warheads, the Express reports.

Television Presenter Vladimir Solovyov said, “one Sarmat means minus one Great Britain”.

It would take just 200 seconds to get from Russia to London, 210 seconds to reach Paris, and just 15 seconds to reach Finland and Sweden. To reach the USA, it’d take 14 minutes.

Putin said the weapon will, “reliably ensure Russia’s security from external threats and provide food for thought for those who, in the heat of frenzied aggressive rhetoric, try to threaten our country”.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Ian Williams, from the Centre for Strategic and International Studies suggested that the missile is, “probably the most destructive single weapon on earth,” adding, “It could destroy 10 cities with one missile” because the warheads carried by the missile can each be programmed to target different locations.

It’s all quite alarming, but it’s also worth remembering that Russia and western nations have had the ability to destroy each other for many decades . They’ve been on different sides in a range of conflicts, yet failed to launch nuclear attacks.
