Never-ending poetry challenge

Running Free

A poem of Self recovery

Image by Miriam Verheyden on Pixabay

Now unrestricted Where once despotic ego Spoke for me (And thought)

Yet I made it so Closed the doors to Mind and me Sight unseen Default Giving rein to instinct To survive No fright Nor flight But only chains of sorrow for Tomorrow’s fiction My own making Faking resilience Who would believe my tears?

Heart long padlocked, broken, Each passing chapter Writing a new story Unshackled from the past Smelted in the fire of Mettle No more Fractured lies Blinkered eyes Fettered mind Behind the fences

Self-doubt Once so real Abandoned On the heap of why

My Child awakes again Behind the walls of silence Cells of violence Now healed Innocence reborn Whole Intact Soul Contract Remains Unchained by baggage Now discarded

Through the years Still on my feet Dancing to the beat Of sweet joy Life my toy With which to play And prance in freedom
