The Soul’s Weight in the Sand

Never-ending poetry challenge

Source

Each footprint left on this journey counts.

Some walk with a heavy heart, others with light steps.

That’s gloom’s darkness or joy’s brightness in the sand.

Once, I stooped to see those footfalls:

(glanced over my shoulder).

Were the indentations kind? I thought. Or meaningless hollows gouged?

Now, I check my voyage,

(just to see),

and adjust my path into the jasmine scent and blackbird’s song at dawn.

Thank you wondrous poet Gordon McFarland for the tag. I now tag: Caroline de Braganza, Erika Burkhalter, David Rudder, Martine Weber, Marta Mozolewska, Bella Linda, Farida Haque, Simran Kankas, Deborah Barchi, and kurt gasbarra.

(Plus anyone who wants to join in).

Prompt to use: Freedom (Please add a link to my poem and tag me so I know you’ve responded and can read yours).

Here’s Gordon’s super poem:

This poetry challenge began with Martin Rushton, and his instructions are as follows:

“Your challenge is to keep this going as long as possible. Write a poetic response, tag ten wondrous poets, add a new prompt, link this poem in, tag me and publish.” Martin Rushton

Martin’s amazing poetry:

I look forward to reading your poems! Prompt Freedom.
