Romina’s Movie Challenge is Something This Crazy Year Needed
If you haven’t heard about it yet, keep reading and be entertained…maybe so much that you’ll laugh until you cry.
On July 8, a writer friend of mine, L. Jagi Lamplighter, posted a fun-sounding challenge on her personal page on Facebook: Describe your favorite film in the most boring manner imaginable.
The responses were swift, hilarious, and plentiful. Between descriptions and responses to the descriptions, she had over 400 responses.
Movies of every genre were described.
Some movie descriptions were sentimental ones like Jagi’s: A man agrees to take a job he doesn’t want, but everyone gets mad at him for adding a few lights. (1) *answers to all descriptions provided at the end of this article.
Some movie choices were not surprising like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. And some I still haven’t figured out, but with many I laughed until I cried. Seriously.
I reposted the challenge to my personal Facebook page.
Here’s my movie description: Lonely woman agrees to marry a man who recently came out of a coma but can’t go through with it at the last minute. (2)
And here are some of the responses I got.
From family friend, Kyle: Man finds a bug and opens a zoo of ancient chickens. (3)
From family friend, Chris: Person inherited a thing…went for a walk and got rid of it. (4)
From one of my kiddos: Father and son reconnect through radio and try to catch a killer. (5)
From my friend, Linda: It was a blustery day in the south and no one gave a dam. (6)
Here’s one I wrote today just because I could: A former minister becomes angry at water and trespassers. (7)
And one more I wrote today: A man wants to get on a train so he can talk to a woman about gardening. (8)
I found out today that this challenge started on July 2 with a tweet by filmmaker Romina. The thread exploded with over 66K retweets and a little less than half that many likes.
Bored Panda.com posted an article about it on July 10. Here’s a link for the article.
Go read it for more boring movie descriptions that will make you smile and laugh out loud.
After all, everyone can use some harmless laughter right now.
I hope you’ll comment below with your own boring description of your favorite film. I can’t wait to see what you write!
