Robert De Niro Heightens Speculation on His New Trump Film Following Incident at Gotham Awards Speech

“My Trump takedown movie will make his little orange toes curl up like Fritos,” De Niro promised

At the Gotham Awards Monday evening, presented annually in New York City to the makers of independent films, Robert De Niro went off script. Noticing that the speech being related to him by teleprompter was not his complete speech — that it had been edited to leave out an important section he had written beforehand — he just stopped, and went off script.

“The beginning of my speech was edited, cut out,” he announced to the audience.

“I didn’t know about it — and I want to read it.” Members of the audience cheered the Oscar winner on, as he whipped out his phone and began scrolling to find his original speech. He found it, and started reading:

“History isn’t history anymore,” he said. “Truth is not truth. Even facts are being replaced by alternative facts and driven by conspiracy theories and ugliness.”

He then referenced changes to Florida’s school curriculum that allowed teachers to push the idea that enslaved African Americans had “developed skills” which could be used “for their personal benefit.”

“The entertainment industry isn’t immune to this festering disease,” he continued, pointing out that — “The Duke, John Wayne, famously said of Native Americans, ‘I don’t feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them … There were great numbers of people who needed new land and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.’”

De Niro then took particular aim at Trump, referencing a Washington Post fact check that found the former president had lied more than 30,000 times during his four years in office.

“And he’s keeping up the pace in his current campaign of retribution,” the actor added.

“But with all his lies, he can’t hide his soul. He attacks the weak, destroys the gifts of nature and shows disrespect — for example by using ‘Pocahontas’ as a slur.”

He then went on to blast the awards show and Apple Studios, which produced his new movie “Killers of the Flower Moon,” for the edited speech:

“So I’m going to say these things — to Apple and thank them, all that. Gothams. Blah blah blah. Apple. But I don’t really feel like thanking them at all for what they did. How dare they do that, actually.”

At that point the crowd cheered again, before the show went on.

However unexpected — or significant — this was, it almost pales in comparison to what De Niro told reporters after the show:

“Most of you know, and I announced this on the publicity tour for Killers of the Flower Moon, that I am making a movie based on Trump, called King of Fraud Street.”

My film will focus on that greedy, unprincipled bastard, and tell the story of how he cheated and lied and bullied his way to the presidency.”

“We’ve got the final script into shooting form,” he added, “and have a signed contract with the actor who is going to play Trump. And I can tell you, he — or she — is fired up and ready to go.”

“He or she?” De Niro was immediately asked. “You can’t mean you’re going to have a woman playing Trump.”

De Niro had a ready answer —

“All I’m going to say at this point is that there are amazing things you can do with CGI, and AI in films these days. And when you pair that, with an actor —”

“an actor who truly understands their character — understands the heart of their character — and wants to show what a p*ssy Trump is, amazing things can be done.”

“And we have chosen just the right person to do all that.”

De Niro cut off his impromptu news conference at that point, and of course that’s when the starting gun went off as to the speculation of what, or who, he was referring to.
