Riley’s Story

He had wanted her.

Riley ran out of the cafe in a haste. Pressed to the concrete in the alleyway around the corner, she closed her eyes and counted to ten.

She loved these alleyways that were prevalent in Savannah. It was very different from when she lived in New York. New York was a place she did not want to think about right now–too much had happened there.

“Ten,” she said finally and opened her eyes.

Her breath filled the alleyway, her anxiety had ratcheted up so much.

But it was also what Mason had said.

He had wanted her.

She fell on the back of her heels when he said that. Squeezing her eyes shut again, she counted quietly to ten once more.

He had wanted her.

Riley would be lying if she would have said that she had dwelled on Mason alone all of these years. When she was a tween however, he was all she thought about and how she ached for whatever he had done to Audrey when took her into the closet.

That fateful game of Spin the Bottle…

Seeing him after all of these years looking even more devastating than he had when she was a preteen, now knowing he had wanted to do whatever he had done to Audrey to her…

She had to ghost him–right there! How could he ever think she was anything but a stalker now? That was over.

It started to get dark, the sun was about to set and Riley knew that she needed to get over him pronto.

Riley had stayed in the alley for long enough. She walked back into her cafe because she was the boss there.

Ed looked up at her. She smiled at him like she never had before.

When she hired him she knew that he had a crush on her, and today was his lucky day.

“Ed, would you come in the back with me? I need your help.”

He nodded, placing the towel he was wiping down the counter with on the glass case.

“I’ll be right there,” she said, as he walked to the back.

Riley locked the front door, and turned the be right back sign to indicate the cafe would be temporarily closed.

She walked leisurely to the back, walked into her office and pulled her sweater off.

Ed’s eyes were so wide, they looked like saucers. She smiled and licked her lips.

“I need you to help me forget everything that happened today before right now,” she said, undoing her bra. “Do you think you can help me to that?”

Topless, she could hear his breath as she moved the piles on her desk so she could sit on it.

“Ed? You have not answered me. Can you make me forget–” Her sentence was muffled by his lips on hers and his hands on her waist.

Riley held him close savoring his kiss and the blackness that came with her closed eyes.
