Ed’s Story
He had not been called Eddie since high school, but it sounded divine on Riley’s lips.

Ed had really needed a job.
The cafe was a few blocks from his place. He was ready to live there to make a living for himself.
He opened the door to the office in the back where Vale, the exiting manager, had indicated he go. When he opened the door and saw Riley, he almost had to leave. He was so attracted to her but was sobered by realizing that he needed the job.
Riley was impressed by him because it was clear that he was willing to work his ass off. Vale eventually left, and he became the new manager.
He tried very hard not to show his feelings for Riley, but he could tell by how she looked at him she knew; she read him like a bestseller hot off the press. When she told him that she would meet a man she had been flirting with on a dating app, he listened to her talk about it over wine in the cafe the night before.
The cafe had become his home. He was there with her so often, eating leftovers or drinking wine after everyone left. Ed was always careful with his drinking because he did not want to have a drunken moment with her.
When Dating App Guy came to the cafe, Ed felt jealous. He knew he had no right to feel that way. But when Riley left unceremoniously from the cafe leaving her “date,” he relaxed. Even more so, when Dating App Guy left.
Ed was prepared to comfort her when she came back. But when she called him to her office, pulled off her sweater and pulled up her skirt–-she never wore underwear–-and told him to make her forget–-
He kissed her and was between her legs before she could finish her sentence. Ed held her face for a moment because he did not want to rush with her, but he needed her. Needed to feel her close to him, needed to feel her touch him. On cue, she caressed his unshaven cheek and kissed him, her mouth hungry for his.
Her hunger broke down his resolve. They fucked fast and furious on her desk. A pile of papers fell on the floor, but neither of them cared as they coupled on the desk. The moon shone a bright spotlight on them.
“Eddie,” she gasped.
He had not been called Eddie since high school, but it sounded divine on Riley’s lips.
They dressed in silence, but after she pulled her sweater over her now braless breasts, he traced the contour of one through the cashmere,
“Come home with me, I know this is just for tonight, but I don’t want it to end.”
Riley nodded.
They held hands as they walked to his place. Inside, the night extended forever.
Ed woke up to Riley’s silhouette against his thin curtains. He was paralyzed with emotion. It was morning now, and last night had dissolved…
